Need some help!

Hi:

I've been mulling this over for weeks, and can't seem to pull the trigger. I have the money, but am torn between the Hypersonic CX6 or the Sager 8790. As we know, one is Dothan 2.0 755, and one is P4 3.4.

Here's my dilemma (listed in order of importance):

1. I do some high end graphics and CAD stuff, I use Studio MX 2004, Auto CAD 2005, .NET, Visio 2002 EA, and have alot of the new Adobe CS upgrades, Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.

2. I do alot of number crunching and stasticial analysis (alot of Excel). Hence I would prefer a full-sized keyboard.

3. I use it mostly for business, but tend to have alot of things going at once, Flash, IE, Outlook, email, Excel, Visio, Word, File Maker Pro, etc.

4. I would of course, love more than 2 hours of battery life.

I realize the Dothan will give me the battery life, but with only 400 FSB, I'm concerned about the performance with some of my hew higher end software, that recommends 800 FSB.

I know many lappy-lovers believe that 2.0 Dothan performs liks a 3.06 Ghz P4 (or so I've read), but 800 FSB, versus 400 FSB? Also, the CX6 has only 128 MB video, while the 8790 has 256MB - so for the graphic design stuff, the 256 is superior.

Should I wait for some new upgrade soon, or what?

There are many times that I need to use my laptop for much more simple things, and where mobility and battery life is important. In that context battery and lightweight is ideal of course. Lugging around a power house would not be worth it. I'm truly torn, and I unfortunately don't have enough money left to buy both. It's one or the other, and I've priced both with 60GB 7200 RPM drives at a little over $3,000.

I don't game much, and a 17" screen is not that important, but a full-sized keyboard would be great.

Who can help me out here and help me make a decision. The only reason the Dothan 2.0 is so tempting is because I've read so many positives about it, and so many people love it. The 2MB cache seems a plus, but the 400 FSB may be limiting?

Thanks! VG

Also, I heard the 8790 was going to be upgraded soon?

At work I use a 2.8 800FSB 1Mb P4 desktop and I have the 2.0 Dothan in my laptop. The laptop does feel faster than the desktop but it also has twice the amount of RAM. It is the fastest computer that I have ever used for an extended amount of time. I wish I had a 3.4 P4 to compare to. Sorry I don't.

I wanted a Sager with a P4 for a little while but I am glad that I got a PM for the size, weight, and battery life since I will be a student in about a week now.

Hey thanks! However, you said at work you have 1MB (did you mean cache, with 512 MB memory?) Because I see in your signature you have 1MB memory in your Cx6. I was wondering if I should get 1MB or 2MB in the cx6 for my needs? I suppose more memory might kill some of the battery life?

How do you like your hypersonic? Any dead pixels? Good service and support? Tks.

1) 1MB cache on the 2.8 P4
2)1 GB memory in my CX6
3)Someone told me that anything over 1GB RAM is overkill and the price of gig So-DIMMS is very high
4)Battery life really have no clue on the effect of more memory

I'll get back to you on Hypersonic. I have plenty of stories.
