I'll give it a try. This really sucks. There are a number of people who have the M6N and aren't experiencing any problems. While I am here experiencing tons of em. My first notebook too.

It seems that my overall hdd temperature increased .
Are these still o.k. values or should I be worried.
Mine is at 52 C right now. It generally stays below 55, but can edge up towards 60 sometimes. My CPU stays at 67-70 C. Kinda warm. Fan comes on at 70. I don't know what's normal though.

I have the M6N as well, under winXP. What other problems are you having?

Are you directing that question towards me?

This is basically the problem in detail.

the system locks up randomly in Windows XP Pro. The random lock ups occur right after I install the Broadcom Gigabit Ethernet Lan drivers from the Asus M6N driver CD. I also tried downloading new drivers from the Broadcom website. However, the problem still exists. I have used computers all of my life and thus, this is definitely not a user error. It seems to be hardware because I have gotten a few BSOD's (blue screens of death) alongside the lockups that detailed an error about an IRQ_NOT_LESS_THAN_NOT_EQUAL (something like this) message. I have also tried Windows 2000 Pro and the same problem occurs. Do you have any idea what the problem may be? Furthermore, this error even occurs after a fresh install of Windows. I have installed all the drivers properly first(ACPI and Intel Chipset drivers).

Furthermore, it would be great if you send me your Broadcom Ethernet drivers, since mine seem to be buggered.

I have found that most, if not all, of the drivers that ship on that CD- or any companies CD, for that matter- are well outdated by the time you get to holding the CD in your hand. I would check the drivers on the Asus support site and start checking versions. I would also check your bios version as well, I saw some minor buggy issues with the first bios which is what my unit shipped with.

Anytime I install my own memory, I memtest it. The amount of static it takes to jack up a memory stick is far less than you would ever feel. Definately memtest that thing.

And, any USB floppy drive would make the system boot from floppy.

But my rule of thumb is to never install drivers off a CD. I hate to say this, because I really dig Asus, but thier first run drivers on most of thier stuff, in my experience, have been less than reliable. Like my router, the shipping firmware was totaly crap. Once I flashed it, its been a real work horse.

I hope all you require are the right files! Seems like it might be, to me.

I'll test out the memory tomorrow morning. I'm tired.

the hdd does get pretty warm, but not hot to the touch. I have the 6026GAX likely the same as yours. Did you install it with the metal cradle attached? not sure if it'll help, but it should dissipate heat better.

The store installed the stuff for me. I just ran MemTest and it's not the RAM. MemTest reported 0 errors. The problem exists right after I install the ethernet broadcom drivers. Also, could the locking up be because my cpu speed is 600MHz when plugged into an AC outlet?

How long did you run memtest for.
Do you have wireless internet? as a test you can use that for a few days and see if you have any blue screens or lockups.
Can you force the CPU to 100% using Power4Gear?

I ran memtest for 1 hr.

I don't have wireless internet, but plan on using it in the fall once I start University.

I have tried running the cpu at 100% using speedstep. I did not install Power4Gear. The system still locks up at 1500MHz. It also locks up at 600MHz. All randomly of course.

if you ran it for 1 hour... which test did it get to?

I just thought of something too- this happened after loading the LAN drivers, or just when running it on the lan nic? And if so, are you running it at gigE speed? And, if so again, what network appliance (make/model) are you plugged into?

The test it got to was like #3 or #4. Then I stopped.

There is definitely something dodgy going on with the ethernet connection (10/100/1000). When I am not plugged into my network, notebook runs like a dream. When I am plugged into the network, notebook runs like a dream for a while then locks up like a nightmare. I am plugged into a Linksys BEFSR41 router and cable internet connection.

Yes, I have updated all the drivers to the latest one. Problem still exists. I have brought my notebook back to the store and it will take a few days to get a new one. I hope I get a replacement. Furthermore, the notebook I sent back had 0 dead pixels.

This all sounds odd to me.

Sate some suspicions of mine- are you running at GigE speed, or is it just at 100? I ask because the notebook is running fine when the LAN isnt running... I was suspecting the drivers, but you got the right ones, so now I suspect your router. You got the latest firmware on it? If a router is sending crap to your nic, no matter how nice the system, it will get a little funky. And cheap routers tend to do this. Linksys has thier good and bad models.

More likely theres something corrupt in the OS I suppose, but this still smells like a networking thing to me. I obviously spent too many years running quality assurance on crappy enterprise routers, hehe.

I'm running at 100 mbps, since that's the max the router is capable of. I am using the latest firmware for my router. My dad can connect his IBM T40 to the router with no problems at all. OS is not corrupt because I have tried Windows 2000 Pro w/SP4 and still get the same problems.
