what a weekend...

Went to a party on friday, it was great. Woke up the next morning, and me and a couple of friends drove down to to Long Island to visit some people, and then goto the Yankee game. So i parked my car in Long Island, a couple of blocks from my sisters apartment, and we took the subway to Yankee stadium. Great game btw, yankees kicked ass. After the game, we went to the NYC comedy club, as self advertised on their marqee, "the walmart of comedy clubs", a not surprisingly ****ty place, but great acts. Then, things went downhill from there...

We went back to where i thought i parked my car... but it wasnt there.... So naturally, i just assumed, i must have forgotten where i parked it. So we walk around a couple of blocks, but still no luck. At this point, im startin to worry. So i go back to my sisters place, and call the police to see if its been towed, and no, they dont have anything on record. So i tell them i need to report it stolen, and these guys were complete d*cks. "are you sure you just didnt let someone borrow it, and forget?"..."well its only been a couple hours, why not give it a couple more days"... so i start to get pissed off, and finally get them to write up the report. And seriously, i dont think they could have cared, any less

Finally, when i get back home, i figure at least i have my laptop. So i go to use it, and it keeps poping up with errors. Luckily, i thought, i just made a Ghost backup (for the first time) on friday. Anxious to see how good it worked, i didnt try to solve my problem, but just restored the ghost. After a SLOW ass restore (4hrs ...didnt recognize my external HD, as USB 2.0), i found that my windows would no longer boot up. Not even an error, just a blinking cursor. I tried the usual repair mbr, and all that...but no luck. So here i am on my cleanly installed windows .....oh yea, did i mention i didnt sleep in 2 days....

So anyway, if you live in the LI/Queens/NYC area

oh man
I feel sorry for you, evo
anything we can help with the laptop? (obviously nothing we can do about the car)
Is it the car or the laptop?

If it's the laptop -- should've put it on insurance.
Best of luck man! I hope they find your baby soon.
I think Amber is the car. The laptop is just more bad news.

Nice car by the way --- I love Evos.

yep, Amber is the car. As for the computer, i tryed to access the ghost image (on the external HD), and when i goto explorer view in Ghost 2003, i get an error that it cant read on of the files, so i can only see the C: directory. I cant open any of the folders, and recover my stuff... I guess my backup HD might be failing.

And yea, i do have insurance on it... but still...

sh!t, that really sucks evo. it's a really nice car BTW, good luck finding it. as for the hd, can you possibly try it on another computer to see if it's actually the hd or just ur computer? if it still doesn't work, i would say just work with ur clean install and attempt to reformat the external.

Unfortunately, Amber is probably is a couple hundred pieces spread across the eastern US by now. Really sucks. They used to hang horse thieves, I think they should do that with car thieves. At least those that steal nice wheels. And the buggers that buy the parts they get. And the bastards that buy the parts off of them.

^According to the 'rents... it doesnt look like it. Im goin with my old car right now; 96 Maxima se, and it looks like its gonna stay that way. According to my parents, the car got stolen because i wasnt "responsible" enough ?!

^^Thanks for the support everybody

Look at the weight listed on the missing report... He has a 8600, not a 9100...
J/K, I have a 9100, so I can knock it for its size. It was definitely his car...

Dude, sorry to hear about your evo. Your parents are wrong, the fault lies with the criminals that stole the car. It's like saying that a rape victim is responsible because of the clothes she was wearing. She was "asking" for it.

WRONG!!!

I hope you get a new EVO, man. I would be pissed if my 350z disappeared. At least I don't have parents to be irrational and deny my replacement. It could always be worse though if you think about it.

Hm

First off, I'd like to say sorry about the car dude. Even if I'm new to this board, noone deserves such a hellacious day, and as a result, I HAD to make a comment on it. That said, what in god's name were you doing at the Toliet watching the Yankees?

Yep... thats right... I'm from Boston and I ain't afraid to show it

your parents sound like my parents..... i agree with Red, though, your parents are completely wrong about that. i would say, for a nice prank, park your car in a private garage and then have one of your friends take it to their house and hide it. let's see what they say then... seriously though, are there any distinguishing features on the car, i.e. bumper sticker, window decals, tag no. (this might not be any help if they already got rid of the plates), body addons, etc.? i'm going to NY soon as well, so i'll keep an eye out for it. good luck again!

"resonsible enough" ?? Locked the car? Used the club (if you got one?) What more can a guy do? Put a boot on everytime you park it?
