8790 vs 4750(for gaming)

If you had to pick between these two machines, and your primary concern was gaming, which would you choose?

4750
AMD 3400+
M11 9700 128MB
2gigs ram

OR

8790
P4 3.2 Ghz
M11 9700 256MB
1gig ram

Obviously the 8790 has a better gpu, but how much better? Is it significantly better to outweigh the 4750's advantage in cpu/ram?

the 4750 has alreadynbeen proven that its better in gaming then 8790

really?? i read post where the 8790 ram doom 3 on high settings w/ shadowing, and the 4750 ran it med, on lower resolution w/o shadowing, and both were in 5 FPS of each other... wish i could find the post... if you ask me, the 8790 is much better for gamming.

But between those 2 builds, the 4300 AMD + 2 gigs of ram will run games better then a 3.2 p4 1 gig... IMHO

I always ran doom3 with shadows on. I prefer the medium resolution because its smoother. It does run on high resolution fairly well, but I don't think its worth the fps drop.

yeah...go with the amd64 because it is the best overall computer chip.

8790 4-ever!!!
Dual Channel DDR
256MB ATI
Hyperthreading...

Yes but if the 8790 is within 5 frames on a higher setting and res..it would be better for gaming ...

But what about say the upcoming farcry 64? Or even farcry. I think the answer's obvious for that.

If those are extremely "Choppy Frames", then the FPS is simply a "Bogus" number. Need good frame rates without "interference" for gaming and comparisons - same goes for the artifacts.

I think alot of games will start to utilise more than 128mb of vram now, so the 256mb gpu may be a better soloution. 1 year ago it wouldnt have mattered because the only advantage of having 256mb of vram was being able to have better fps in 16x12 type resolutions. But times have changed somewhat. (Doom3 really really liked the additional vram, and i think we will see a trend starting here)

I know, im going with what the other 8790 owners have said that they get smooth playback fps at high res..I dont think so much its because the 8790 is better then the 4750..I think its the extra 128mb of ram..Doom is a real graphics hog with a capital H

seems like a pci amd 64 motherboard will be released soon. http://notebookforums.com/showthread.php?t=36642

I think there is a negligible difference in gaming performance between the two.
