its seems that i have a matshia-uj-825s dvd and cd combo burner on my ferrari 3200. the problem is that it takes about 30min to burn a movie at 4x which should take about 15 not 30. im using ritek g04 dvd-r's which used to burn at 8x on my pioneer 107d. does anyone else have this problem? is there any firmware updates for this drive. i payed about 2050 for my lappy and i want the performance it says that it has and nothing less

any help would be great

help needed here too!

ok, so it looks like i'm not the only one here having problems with this. i'm using the full ultra edition of nero 6.0 w/ nerovision express 2 to burn cd and dvds. i'ved burned cd's twice, about a week after having the machine, and it worked fine. the past few days i've been trying to burn a dvd with no luck. nerovision will write for a while, until about 25-30% progress, then stop for no reason at all. sometimes even as soon as 5-10%. there's no error message at all when it stops.

to try to fix it, i've:
uninstalled and re-installed nero 6. uninstalled and re-installed my cdrw/dvdr with the hardware changes scanner. tried to update the drivers/firmware, but i can't find versions of EITHER online. no mat****a site?? updated divx.

i'm kinda stumped - any ideas or suggestions anyone?

i've googled a bit, and it looks like many others are having issues with this model drive, the uj-825s. i've also seen many instances of people having the same issue as sox here, where the drives works but only at half speed (2x instead of 4x). but no answers yet.

keep me informed on what you find out, its ridiculous that it cant live up to its stated specs, theres gotta be something that can be done about this

When I use Nero it burns at 4X, but only at 2X with DVD Decrypter. Probably something in the firmware that makes the programs detect a false max speed. Did you try to choose 4X manually?
Yeah - I've tried selecting the 4x speed manually. Also, I've used the Nero Speed tool in the Toolkit and it tests the dvd/drive and clocks both "current speed" and "max speed" at 2x.

I'm more concerned about why I can't get the damn thing to completely write a dvd. You're using Nero and it writes to DVD just fine?

ferrari3200 how long does it take to burn a full dvd-r at 4x?
Hi

I halso have a ferrari 3200 and have exactly the same problems.

to write a 2x DVD 4.7G it takes approx 30mins.

to write a 4.7G DVD at 4x it still takes 30mins (this should only take 15mins) when i simulate it takes 15mins to simulate. Nero says it is writing at 4 x and should take15mins.

When I use alcohol120% that indicates a write speed of 2x and final average is 1.9x although the DVD is 4x and is reconised as 4x.

File size 600.6Mb write CDR imation
Speed 4x (600Kb/sec)
time 18:15 Sec
Actual 4.1x (561.65Kb/Sec)

Speed 8X (1200Kb/Sec)
time 9:13
Actual 7.9X (1132.62Kb/Sec)

Speed 12X (1800Kb/Sec)
time 6:59 (average 10.3x)
Actual 9.7x (1467.81Kb/sec)

Speed 16x
Time 6:28 (average 11.2x)
Actual 9.9x

Read
File Size 572.1Mb of CDRW

Time 6.50 Secs
Actual 10.3x

Write CDRW
Size 572.1Mb
Speed 8x 1200KB/sec
Time 8:52
Actual 7.8x 1101Kb/s

I flashed my firmware with the one from the firmware page hoping that might solve the problem, it didn't solve it. By flashing this firmware my drive/laptop now take an extra 30 seconds or so to initalise. NOT good. I need a copy of the original firmware as stored on a ferrari so that I can put it back on my drive. Someone HELP!!!!!!!!!!.

I had a very long chat with an Acer repesentative about this problem i.e not writing at 4x I gave him lots of info regarding software and type of media being used he has taken all this and says he will try to pass onto Mat****a to look at, BUT DON'T HOLD YOUR BREATH nothing may happen it need more members with ferrari's to ring Acer and tell them about this problem.

So get on the phone and get a case ID with this problem, aslo alert them of other users with this problem, including non ferrari users with Mat****a UJ-825S drives. It is a problem with the drive and I am sure a firmware update will resolve this.

I submitted the above results to Mat****a I also asked them about the write speed of the DVD's.

Here is the official reply from Mat****a ref writing speeds capabilities of this drive.

"CDR is ZCLV control. It is not in agreement with an arithmetic average.
12x max. Inside circumference 8x perimeter At the time of 12x
16x max. Inside circumference 8x, 12x perimeter, Outside circumference 16x.
It becomes rotation control called ZCLV"

Here is the reply for DVD write speeds:

"This is OEM products. Please ask PC maker the formal correspondence Media. Media which is not good as for the write-in
characteristic of 4X is set to 2X. Moreover, it is 2X, when it writes in and there is no parameter. Please test
Panasonic or Media of Taiyo Yuden(That's Brand)."
