Really unrelated to alienware but i need help

Thread Starter
Ok now,

I came into 2 Pentium III 733mhz processors and i instantly had a plan.

I decided to build a dedicated computer for downloading stuff and for no other apparent reasons...In a nutshell I just wanted a dual Pentium III system

So I just bought a $35 mobo on ebay which has a server chipset on it...I need help understanding what it is. What is the difference between workstation and server chipsets? Can I run XP pro on server chipsets? I have read some reviews on this mobo (Tyan Thunder LE) and they all say they are great for server usage, but not designed for a workstation...Can anyone tell me more or what they were talking about?

I am just a man...with a dream of having a dual p3 rig.

I'm not being funny here, but seriously search on google "how do setup dual pentium 3 system" etc try the searches with the name of your motherboard if needed--there is def. info out there-prob. huge step by step guides

I would guess workstation is for the user
server is the main computer which workstations work off of

Ok server is a comoputer that is desinged to run all the time doing one specific task very well. You may want to use this a a file server or a network firewall or anything esle you can thing needs to be done. If you have a wireless network and live in a populated area I suggest running airsnare on it and have an audibe alarm that will alert you when others connect and either let them in and give them a warining they are being watched or block them completly. Thats just one Idea but the applications are limit less. I would also install VNC on your new server that way you can just hook it up headless no monitor or keyborad or mouse this and just use this to control it. then all you need is power and network conenction. You will however need a monitor and keyborad mouse to set it up to beginwith. Oh look now you have gotten me started. Now I want one.

Real VNC

guess thats one plus with VNC.
Did u also know u can access VNC desktop over a browser with the java client

Remote Desktop = You screen now is bassicly plugged into the Pc you connected to you cannot tell the difference. (unless theres lag or yur 56k)

SSH = Just like telnet but encrypted.

Does remote desktop or ssh let you compress the data comming from the remote computer. I have to do that with VNC because some of our remote coputers are realy far away and I need all the speed I can get I cut it down to 8bit and it runs smothly.

Yah, u can choose. they both compress very well.

Also with Remote desktop u can say what colours and u can mousnt yur HD onto the connecting pc if u need to upload

SSH is fast enought anyway since its just text
