Acer 8006LMi: How to alleviate vertical viewing angle problems?

Hi m8s.

I have just got an Acer travelmate 8006LMi. The hardware is fantastic but the screen has really dissapointed me. It has the same problems of my old Travelmate 630, basically the vertical viewing angle issue (the horizontal one is not so important for the use that I am giving to it). I would like to ask you all:

What can be done to solve (at least partially) or alleviate this issue? Is there some brightness/color/contrast/others/etc trick that you can recommend to fix this?

In a normal viewing angle (that is with the screen a little tilt back) the colors from the center to the bottom of the screen look washed and it is difficult to catch the detail. For that I can have good color balanced in all the screen I need to tilt it too much back!

Thank you.

I would like to see some opinions from other 8006LMi users. Is the LCD of this model so average in general, or is it a feil in mine?

You can try to position your head a little far from the screen. Normally 60-70 cm will do the trick... and your eyes will thank you when you get 60 years old...

I upgraded from an old Tecra 8100 and I would rate the screen on a par with that, except for the higher res on the acer. I'm OK with it, I wasn't expecting a wide viewing angle. I think it largely depends on what you are going to use the screen for. For games or multimedia it's not that good (any dark shades get washed out) but for a coding or writing documents (which is mostly against a light background) it's just fine. For what it is, it's very sharp and bright, just not xbrite or similar.
