Sager Motherboard Replacement

Hello,

I currently have a Sager 2200C NP-Series laptop. It came with a 1 Ghz processor. After replacing the hard drive, there seem to be problems with the laptop. I think I might have fried the motherboard. The symptoms are:
1. A flashing light power when turned on (far left of the three status lights).
2. System does not boot, almost like it is in standby mode.
3. I hear the hard drive spin up and the cd-rom pops out but the CPU doesn't seem to be on.

I was wondering if I should go ahead and replace the motherboard or if anyone knows of what my problem might be. I also thought about replacing the motherboard with a newer one (faster CPU too), and I was wondering if this is possible or not. I know alot about PC repair but mainly in the desktop area and not much about laptops. If anyone knows of a way to get 'my precious' running again please reply to this post. Thanks alot you guys.

Send it back for service and havde them determine what needs to be done. If you replaced the HDD and then had problems, that may be the cause. Reverse your actions, if this is the case, and try it again.

Still stuck......

I have already put the old hard drive back in the system, but the computer responds the same way. The drive spins up and the cd-rom works but there is no display and the system is not 'booting'. I have tried the function stand-by keys and that does not work either. Any other suggestions?

Are you getting the various BIOS displays?

I am not getting anything on the screen. No bios info, no system tests, nothing. I hit the power button and the hard drive spins up and then the light on the front (far left) blinks.

Have you tried it 1). On batteries only and 2). On AC Adapter only with the battery removed. That light indicates A/C power and when it blicks it indicated that the machine is in standby mode. That's what they indicate on an 8790, I'n not sure about your machine. You will need to check your manual to determine if that is the same or different for your configuration.

Yes, I have tried both ways of starting the machine. Getting out of stand-by mode is the problem.
