I left my notebook sit for a few hours.. when i was watchin the football game.. came back and it was BLUESCREENED.. i have a feelin it just overheated.. my vid card was pretty damn overclocked (540/280) then it kept crashin when i would bring it back to windows.. its runnin fine now.. but man did that have me scared.. im debating wether to just reformat or not.. and just start fresh.. any opinions?

Might be better served if you removed the OC..... just an idea......like eliminate the cause....

lol yea.. i did that i also figured out what else caused it.. i had the screen still on.. i was runnin the windows xp 3d screen saver (bad idea with an overclocked card) and i also had the hard disks on.. haha it was all set up to fail.. i guess i lucked out.

Leaving the HDDs on is really not a bad idea. Check it both ways and see what the temps are. I believe that they will be lower with the drives "always on".

im jus pointin out how the odds were against it staying "cool" lol

I think in your case it would be ridiculous to reformat and reinstall the OS, as that does nothing to get rid of what is probably one of the most glaringly obvious root causes, the overclocking.

Unless the blue screen is directly attributable (by the blue screen's error message) to any drivers or libraries, reinstalling the OS is pointless.

Give it a day off to cool down and then see if it still reboots. You may have to get a replacement since you were gaming at a high overclock. 280 causes artifacts for me in the 3dmark01. Maybe you should consider a notebook cooler for it as well.

Might wanna run memtest86 and see if it's your memory. Let it run through a few cycles.
I always have a Bootcd with lots of testing programs on it for that exact reason. You can download an image file and burn it to a cd here.

i used to have random restarts with my desktop, the culprit was overheating of the CPU, what temperature is yours running at?
62 C tops. Generally 45 C.
that means mine still isn't good at 63 c, its not overclocked and i has a powerful fan on it (i had to replace my old one to stop the random restarting) .

Is this your desktop we are talking about? Or did you get a 4750?

desktop,
well than that could probably be easily fixed. as5 and a bigger fan.
personally i think that my chip was over rated when it was in the factory, and locked to a higher speed then it should have.

My current fan is capable of handling anything up to an xp 2200 (i think) and my CPU is a 1800. But i have a feeling i may have to shell out on a bigger fan. thanks mayaman2
