Hi guys,

Few days ago, i ask in this forum for an advice where buy a Asus M6bne...because i will trip to States in near future.
Well i delay my trip to next month. But now i have more dudes in my head. Well, surfing on the net, give you more different point of views that solutions.

Well, I looking for a Desktop Replacement, yes i know that i'm comparing Oranges with Apples, bacause one is a P4HT based processor and other a Pentium M.

My preference still on the Asus M6Bne, because i like the design, partability...but in other words i want spend my $$$$ on a good laptop with good price/performance and quality.

Is the Dell Inspirion far superior to the Asus M6Bne?

Here is the config's that i'm looking for:

Dell Inspiron 9100

- Intel® Pentium® 4 w/ HT Technology 3.2GHz
- 15.4-in WSXGA+
- 1GB DDR 400MHz 2 DIMMs
- 128MB DDR ATI's MOBILITY™ RADEON™ 9700 AGP 8X Graphics
- 24X CD-RW/DVD Combo Drive
- 60GB Hard Drive at 7200RPM
- Dell® Wireless 1350 Internal Wireless (802.11b/g, 54Mbps)

Total: $1,910.00

Asus M6Bne

- Intel® Pentium® M processor 1.80GHz Dothan
- 15.4-in WXGA
- 64MB DDR ATI's MOBILITY™ RADEON™ 9700 AGP 8X Graphics
- CD-RW/DVD Combo
- 1 GB DDR333 SDRAM, 2x SO-DIMM
- 60GB Hard Drive at 7200RPM
- 802.11 b/g Wireless Mini PCI

Total: $1,870.00

If you jump up to the R9800 on the Inspiron then it makes it a clear winner for me whatever the usage!!

Depends on where you're buying the Asus from.

But assuming you're going powernotebooks' "Elite" model I'd say the Asus since its always good to have the option of carrying your laptop around turned on for more than an hour or two.

I guess the Dell is a nice powerhouse with bigger screen resolution but that's all I'm willing to say because I have this blind hatred of Dell since my last purchase of a desktop.

You can also save money by purchasing the ram elsewhere rather than configuring it thru dells configurator. Also if you want gaming god gameplay then the Radeon 9800 will definetly make the purchasing better

I sent several emails to Gentech People, ask about what components, they use to ensamble the Asus barebone... But i did not receive at a time nothing...
They have the best price on the net... But, iI do not share what other users say about this guys..
If the support is as fast as the answers by email, I have my reserves?

9100 With that setup, your graphix will look much better on the wsxga screen, plus the vid card will make it verry quick to render graphix.

The 9100 is definately the powerhouse of the 2 for ideal multimedia use. Add the extra battery in the modular bay and you'll be gaming on the road for hrs with crisp, clean graphix. I'm sure you wouldnt regret it with what you're looking/needing it for.

plus you can throw on the xps quick snap covers

I thought all Dells came with quick snap everything? But it only snaps off... doh!

LOL

You will find that the dell crowd is a little polarized here. Some are fans, some are haters. I would say even your comparison by comparing an M6n price by someone willing to put a nice warranty on it like Dell will. 24/7 support is great and all, assuming a) you speak indian... since its all outsourced and b) (my opinion) you like using that thing. Whats that line from Tommy boy... I could crap in a box and put a guarantee on it, I'd rather have a quality part though... hehe. Anyhow, I vote Asus just from build quality, but the specs on the 9100 are nicer. I would so go Dothan vs P4 though, just from battery power. Whats the point of a laptop if it isnt all that portable? Just get a mini desktop and LCD screen, save half the money.

Useless today, arent I? hehe. Oh well. Not a fan of Dell, I repair too many of em.

agh, 4 lb weight difference.

No way.

If you want the 128mb 9700, get the mitac.

Otherwise, go with the ASUS

Well, I just bought the barebones, processor, and cd-rw/dvd drive from them. So I can't help you with the memory, or hard drive. But it came well packed with no dead pixels.

I ordered late Friday, but there was a problem with my billing/shipping address setup (my fault), they emailed me with in, a hour of ordering, I called them and the problem was quickly worked out, they were nice, friendly and efficient. It shipped on Monday, arrived on Wednesday or Thursday, and I put it together with the parts I ordered from newegg. Was very painless. I was shocked that they were so quick to pick up on my error, I'm sure that had I not incorrectly entered my billing and shipping, they would have shipped it the same day.

As I said no dead pixels, I'm very happy with my purchase, laptop and gentech, if I could I would do it the same way all again. The m6bne is much prettier in person, and it feels more solid that my old Dell 5000E.

I hope that helps
