Doom 3 Benchmarks on M18 - Page 2

What kind of tweaks?

I have the same spec XPS that tyger does and I got like a 5440 or something around there on the 3dmark also on my 9800 mobility. That was before I found out from this forum that there is apparently a Catalyst driver upgrade from Dell's website. I am going to borrow a copy of my friend's Doom 3 tomorrow and run a few tests and see how good I do. I dont know however if the Catalyst drivers have the new Opengl patch that some employee of ATIs created that optimizes the card and thus squeezes out a bunch more frames on Doom 3 on X800 based cards or not. But anyway my question is what tweaks are you talking about tripp?

I installed the Dell Ati drivers and I got a 6590 from a 5440 or something like that...my friends with a desktop 9800 pro got a 5800. Is this driverset a hack or something?

no, but ATI has NOT had a good OpenGL implementation in the past, so with Doom3 coming out, and being the biggest OGL product in a while, and one that there's no way they could afford to let nVidia crush them in, they have finally focused on fixing their OGL drivers

Yes rogueone I agree but I am curious if you know more about the patch that I have been hearing about that is being released by an ATI employee at beyond3d where he claims a 14 % improvement just in Doom 3 across the board on X800 graphics card. I havent had time to look into it but my friend from school has and I was wondering if you could enlighten on that

My Doom3 Performance w/M11

After performing several tweaks I've been able to get this game running awesome on the M9700!!

Here's a chart.... you'll notice it barely goes below 30FPS!

One of the changes I made was the shader tweak released by Humus. Offers a slight improvement for the M11.

tyger I'm puzzled. After 2 hours of tweaking. I'm getting between 25-40 fps average at 1280x1024 with my 128 ati 9600 clocked at 399/240. Very similar to your score. Maybe if you tweak more you can get a substantial increase in the fps.

I found out, if you play in windowed mode, there is a significant increase in fps. I think that's how I will play from now on. The games looks spectacular. The new aw's modded omega driver works like a charm. After numerous test I get about 5 more fps with the new interaction.vfp that many are talking about in the aw forum, which is the shader tweak Jap is talking about.

Hey tyger, I ran a timedemo bench today on Doom 3 and I got 30 fps at 1024 and high settings. And when I ran at Ultra high settings I was able to get 28 fps. How are you guys with the iXPS getting 37 fps in 1024 and high settings and 30 fps at 1024 and ultra high settings? I have Catalyst 4.8 or whatever drivers that are on the Dell website. Any tips for the newbie ?

Try out the AW 8.05 driver which is a modded catalyst driver. Note only for ati cards.

Perform Jammaster's registery tweak found here. Backup registry first though. I hear that it will turn off themes if you want it. It basically is a lil script that will turn off all the unneeded windows services.

Aliendude in the AW forums packaged a nice lil tweak folder that contains Hummus's shader tweak. http://notebookforums.com/attachment...achmentid=2138

This also helps. Follow the directions in the article. They said put in the doomconfig.cfg which you can do. You can also do in-game by pressing alt-ctrl-~ and adding them manually.

If you wanna do some reading on what things to tweak here is a link if you haven't gone there yet.
