Networking Help

Could someone explain to me the easiest way to set up a desktop to connect with my 8887 so that I can transfer all the files from the desktop to the laptop?

Both computers have ethernet cards and Win XP and I already have a crossover cable but I can't seem to get it set up right in XP. If someone knows a really easy way to do this, that would be great.

I have the same problem here... I want to setup a home network... I have 6 PCs.... 3 of them running on Windows 98SE, 2 of them running on windows ME and only 1 running on Windows XP Home.
All of them connect via wireless network, 802.11g and share internet connection using router.

I set all of them in the same workgroup, Matrix_Net. I'm using IPX/SPX, Netbeui and TCP/IP protocol for Windows 98 and ME and using only TCP/IP for Windows XP.

The problem is sometime when I goto my network palce, they can't see each other, but sometime they can. Is there anyway I can make it always see each other?

Hi,
#1 problem: Do you know if both the network cards support cross-over? Some don't actually.

#2 problem: Need to be more specific to come to conclusion!

Okay then, add a ip address to each computer. Like 192.168.230.20 & .21. Make sure your subnet mask is same on each... like 255.255.255.0 and that work group is the same...like
"home1" or something. Name each computer and click okay. Computers may or maynot ask for install cd's to copy files, then ask to reboot. Even with WinXP it is a good idea to reboot even if it doesn't ask you to. If all protocals are right with both computers you should now be able to see them in network places.

I'm rather new at this networking business so you'll have to be more specific. How do I add an IP address to each computer? How do I see the subnet mask and the rest of the information in your post. I'm afraid I might need something a little more step-by-step.
Thanks for the help

I think Kasteo might have just given you all the extra help you might need!
