Nice Work

Hi all so glad someone is working on this, My system is a inspiron xps 3.4 ee, 1 gig ram, 7200 rpm hardrive & 128 video card. has anybody had this problem, when i leave the program running i get errors that cant read gpu, and to let you know before red herring worked on it i had those errors from cpu, hardrive, dimm and gpu. But know it only happens with the gpu. Am i the only one with this problem?

Another issue beside fan speed calcs is the CPU workload indication, always around 50% even on high load like Doom3 certainly demands. Propably this value needs to be doubled because of our 'HT' processors.

...well one thing more: i keep the fangui on observer mode only because it causes one fan to start and stop continously, though the fan settings are not messed up.

wish you success!!!

cpu workload isn't broke, works fine. Think you are having a different issue pino. Mine is normally near zero until I do something.

As to the fan's not running correctly when you have fangui trying to control them. There is a simple fix.

I've noticed with mine, with I have running in Temp Control mode, that sometimes it runs just as expected, and others when it's time to kick the fans on high, it fights the bios. The only common issue I've suspected so far is the temp of the cpu when the computer boots up.

So the simple fix. I turn off the temp control, and just work for a while, or maybe start a 3d app. starting any 3d app seems to bump the temps 10F almost instantly. What I've found is this. I have the fans kick in high at 116F then go back to low at 102F. If fangui and the system are fighting for control, stop fangui from controlling, and let the temp get to at least 120-124F. Then, when I re-check the Temp control box, the fans immediately kick in high and run normal the rest of the time the system is up. The next time I start up, fangui usually runs fine.

Just let the temp get about 8-10 higher than you want the fans to kick on high and it seems to stop fighting the system. And then you can keep the system even cooler by having the fans kick onto high often.

Just finished reading the thread but do we have an update on fangui?
it works for the most part just make sure you install the original before the updates found in here
post #68 of 86
I've downloaded the one that Red Herring was working on. I'm not sure which version it is since I don't have the 9100 just yet. But tomorrow I will

EDIT: Since the beginning of the thread, I've been downloading this file: i8kfangui.rar and I figured if he made any changes to it, he would upload the new one but still keep the same name.
well that's only his fix to the main file, that's not the original program. this is the original you'll need to start with http://www.diefer.de/i8kfan/index.html

Hi there,

Any news regarding the 3rd fan support ?

TIA and best regards,

Not likely, the control of the fans is throught the fanio driver that comes with FanGUI, and one previous post states that it's a complex driver. I think about the only hope is for the original programmer of FanGUI to update it specifically for a Dell with 3 fans, like the 9100/XPS, but I have a feeling he won't do that unless he owns one

Someone needs to take one for the team... we need someone to donate their laptop... I KNOW that it sucks, but it's for the good of the community...

Great work to all who helped!

I've been following this thread (well, back reading since I got my i9100) back from the start. I have the original fanGUI program and the .rar download. I dloaded about a week ago, and I assume there has been no movement since.

Anyway, what is the step by step procedure to spiff up fanGUI to it's state of the art? I read about deleting some registry entries, but I wasn't sure what to do (so I did nada). And maybe a noob question here......what is the .rar extension?....I can't recall ever seeing that one.

It's time to get down and dirty with fanGUI and see if I can get it working in a practical, day to day trustable way...so I want to start with it working at it's best.
Thanks in advance.

haha ahahah aha ah ah haaaaaaaaa. ...
he said ".rar"

I am happy with whats free. I dont bitch about what someone has built and modified for us for free. It works decently and I am happy.

What do you do with the .rar file once it's downloaded.
rar files are archive files like zip files. You must use a decompressor to extract the files. I use winrar.

Just to bump up this thread and make a request. The annoying reading errors that fanGUI has and a way to switch them off and just stop it changing the reg files? If someone could tell me how to edit the source code I will go about this myself, but if anyone is willing to have a go

It seems as though removing the graph has stopped the errors, its been over hour and had none, as I had one every 10-20 minutes before. It was either that or putting debug mode on... (or changing the cpu update to 15 seconds to stop a huge log file).

That reminds me I better switch off debug.

Anyways, I think it is the graphs that are doing this, if anyone has other solutions they would be appreciated, as I like the graph
