OGRE's Uber-Fantastic-Ultra-Xtreme-Super-Omega 4750 Review to t3h MaXx0r!!! - Page 3

Yeah, I get just shy of 2 hours with max battery set in SpeedSwitch, screen dimmed all the way down, just web surfing.

There's 2 more things I'd like to try as well to see how much life I can squeeze out of this puppy:

- The Hitachi 7K60 has a low power mode as well, IIRC. Gotta figure out how to activate it.

- the wi-fi card has a power saving mode. If you're surfing wireless, that could make a big dif.

Personally, I'm just waiting for the 35W 3400+ to come out next year... I'm hoping that'll double battery life easily.

will that fit even? i am waiting for the 62 watt mobile of either the 3500 or 3700

Spooky, you do realize that while the manufacturer has said that the mobile (62W) Athlon 64s will work with this motherboard, they haven't said anything about the low power (35W) mobiles?

I have heard that the 62 watt works in the 35 watt one (3200 ferrari). i think it was soyboy who tested this.

Someone should salvage one of the low-power mobile AMD64 chips from one of those gawdy Ferrari 3200 laptops, and try it in a 4750. Those Ferrari's are such a waste of nice hardware on an ugly laptop.

The socket is the same. As long as the chips are the same height, and the motherboard will adjust accordingly, I don't see why it wouldn't work.

I bet you could get really good battery life if you did.

Well, it's 8:35 and I've still got 10% left. I'm very impressed by the athlon's power saving techniques, who'd a thunk a DTR could get 2 hours of battery life?

They are supposed to be pin compatible. But, if the bios doesn't recognize them, they won't work. Sometimes the bios has capabilities that the manufacturer of the board doesn't advertise. So, there is some possibility that it will work, but it may well not.

thnx Jimmy.

just did some OC'ing, check the benchmarking section

I started a tweaking section for the 4750. I gave in depth instructions on applying as5 in the tech section. You may want to check that out Ogre.

quick question, when I try to change the GPU and mem clock speeds in power strip, it doesn't let me. It says n/a on the sliders, and when I try to load saved settings on hit apply it beeps. It was working fine last night when I was benching. Would it have to with the omega ati control panel overriding or loacking it because the ati ctrl pnl works fine.
there is probably a box checked which needs to be unchecked for the sliders to be modified.

that's what I'm thinking but I can't seem to find the box, power strip has tons of options. o well, I'll figure it out sometime, no biggie.

*all better now
