Mr9800 Order Status Thread

I would like to start this thread for us that have SUCCESSFULLY ORDERED the MR9800 so we may keep each other up to date on our situations and who is getting cancelled and who is still active. Also it would be good to know if you are a Home, Small Business, or other type of customer. I believe this will help us figure a reliable source for these cards.

My order (845944736 .. zip - 95652) appears to be in production and still moving along. I placed the order Aug. 5th. and my order had to go through the Revenue Adjustment Department first (they are sending me the kit for free!!!). They are shipping the part overnight when released.

Here is my story:
My lappy was purchased through the Department of Veteran Affairs. (BIIIIGGGG govt. acct). The screen had major light leakage so I had Dell replace the screen. Now too bad the accidentally replaced my WSXGA with a WUXGA , even though I just cant seem to get mad about that... hee hee...

Now here is where it gets worse. They sent the tech out to replace my screen. He could not get the screen off. After 1-1/2 hours of him disassembling and prying on my poor little lappy, I finally told him how to take the thing apart (I waited because there are learning curves), and with my direction the job was finished within 20 min.

Oh... I used to own 2 computer shops and provided Dell warranty service for many years...

Well, now my poor little lappy was scratched and abused from his "lack of experience". So I called Dell and Bitched...

I initially was offered a free GIG of ram but they couldnt get that right either, screwing the order up more than once. Then I told them I wanted the M18 instead, they ordered me the Desktop Radeon. I got really pissed and made my most recent call and here I am ... waiting.... and waiting....
Repairs since ownership...
New Screen and Plastics
New Trackpad and top case plastics
New Hard Drive..

Now they may be "Pushing" my order through because of all my nice, romantic calls to Dell over the issues.

I will find my Dell rep info and post later.....

Bought mine today (8-10) Ship date is August 16th. Should hopefully receive by August 19th. $324 out the door.

um, ordered over the phone I presume? and $324? awesome !

I ordered the MR9800 on the 4th of August originally with the Product ID #C7070. It was cancelled on the 9th (estimated ship date). I re-ordered on the 9th and the new product with same order number has an August 13th estimated shipdate.

Both orders were at $311 and some change, +$10 two day shipping.

I've been told by 2 reps (one online, and one over the phone) that all C7070 orders will be cancelled at ship date or when Dell queries the vendor. I'm 90% sure my second order will be cancelled as well, but I don't really know what else to do. I talked to a sales rep that has called me back 3x so far after he's spent hours helping me. He has indicated that he will call me as soon as he gets word that the product is available through Dell Spare Parts. He explained to me that a lot of times these products are released simply for newly built computers and any spares are processed through spare parts. If a specific batch has no spares, orders are cancelled.

For the record I ordered the product as a "Personal/Home" User.

Has anyone elses order made it to the "In Production" phase... not pre production?

My order has been cancelled. I am going to reorder.

Just called Tamara, the rep who placed my original order. She stated that after they'd placed a few of the orders, they realized these weren't in stock, and they weren't sure if they should cancel them or what, but it looks like shipping is cancelling them.

She mentioned they still haven't been given a timeframe for us to buy, but would email me when they were in stock.

My question is, how do we get in touch with someone higher up in Dell? The press release from Dell on the 27th July stated it would be available for new systems and XPS owners. So why over 2 weeks later can only new buyers get them? Seems like a shaft job of the existing owner base, who made this unit popular in the first place.

Several Dell reps have told me (1) the card is not compatible with the 9100, or (2) the card is not in stock, or (3) the card does not exist, or (4) the card exists and I will be called back when it is available; speaking to a supervisor about the different stories yielded nothing. I have been asked to name names (i.e. where did I get that part number), and every effort to find out why I can't order another one has failed.
I have wasted too much time and energy already, so I have started playing Doom with the 128 MB card, and my bitterness is slowly but surely fading as I realize that the game plays well enough for me.

But if you are inclined to take it further, you might as well go right to the top, eh? I have not personally called the numbers below, but who knows...

Don't you guys think it's a little unproductive to sit there and harass reps about the 9800's?

First of all, if they were johnny on the spot about everything going on at Dell they probably wouldn't be answering phones in the first place. Trying to go to them for the scoop on the 9800's is like trying to dig info on Doom 3 out of a Best Buy or Gamespot clerk. You're much better off just looking on these forums or the Internet where whoever has the right information can give it to everyone straight up.

Second of all, nothing those people do is going to get shipments of cards in faster. I want one just as badly as you guys (well, except for the price), but if they don't have any ready to be shipped, there's no way I'm going to be able to change when Dell can actually ship one to me.

Perhaps there was some miscommunication on Dell's side, and orders were mistakenly taken before they were allowed to be. ATI and Dell have an exclusivity deal for a month, so only Dell has the 9800 (as we all know). Maybe the terms of that deal are specific for 'new systems' only? Just a thought

understand I'm not upset or griping, yet.

I only would like to talk to whomever makes actual decisions, to know why their reps are NOT informed of issues like this they need to be informed about, in order to not dissiminate wrong information. Also, and mostly, I'd like to ask why they sent out a press release on July 27 stating the 9800 was now available for XPS owners, and anyone buying a new XPS/9100.

I just want Dell to know that their announcement was nice and all, but we'd like to know WHEN we existing owners might be able to get the upgrade we all bought these systems for, and not being left out feeling like we just should have waited.

My order is still active (In Production) and I am still waiting to see if I am going to be cancelled...

Wish me luck!

I went ahead and called Dell's office, and left a message on their executive response voice mail. Hopefully I'll get a callback from the head of the XPS product line or someone else who is actually involved in the decision making about the 9800 I was very nice, and only stated I was an "on the verge" of being disgruntled customer hehe that should get someone's attention.

If that doesn't work, I might write an actual letter to Mr. Dell. I used to work at Circuit City, and someone got thru to the Pres/CEO's secretary, and abouit 10 minutes later my manager was on the phone being told to do whatever this customer wanted, just make them happy. There is a point when getting pissy works wonders, but I'm trying to attract flies with honey first hehe

Just received another delay email from Dell. They are saying they can't ship my new XPS laptop before 8/26. This is/was my second delay on the unit. I probably won't see my new laptop until after Labor Day now. The reason for the delay is the video card being backordered. I'm trying to decide now if waiting that long is worth it.
lets see. Get an XPS/9100 with a mr9800 in 3 weeks or so, or getting a lesser laptop, with no likely chance of getting a better video card, and having to accept less than stellar gaming on a $2000 rig?

I'd say, it's not like you're gonna die before it arrives (well I hope not at least) and it's not like you're going to order an AW or some such and get it with the same capabilities any quicker.

If it's a huge issue, ask Dell if they'll just send you the unit with a 9700 and do the video swap once the cards are available? (but you pay for the 9800 up front so they don't try to make you pay for the upgrade) worth a shot it you "have" to have it before school starts or something

otherwise, you're likely to get that waaaayyyyy before us existing owners get a 9800 upgrade

here's a question to all of you that had your orders cancelled at the ship date stage....

Did dell actually charge you? Because my bank statement says that I have been charged for the card and it's still has a ship date of the 19th when I check my order status online.

be interesting to hear from you guys with the cancelled orders

Hello to all, i've been reading these forums for quite sometime, but never conveyed my thoughts. I ordered my iXPS back in July 1st and I received it on July 7th. It was a P4 3.2 EE with the m11 (9700 w/128). On july 27th when i heard about the mr9800 coming out, i called my rep and spoke with customer service. Since they provide customers with 21day complete satisfaction i asked if they would exchange it for the mr9800 for free, but they have to send an entire new laptop. So bear in mind that orders from spare parts are being subjugated by full notebook orders. The order was placed on Aug.3 (after they screwed up the first order) and it is now shipping today, to arrive this thursday. As soon as i get some 3dmark03 scores i will post.

Any particular configurations anyone looking for?
