ASUS M6Ne thermal power control issue

Thread Starter
I've had this notebook for a couple weeks now and other than a thermal issue, Its living up to my expectations.

Using asusprob I notice my cpu temps hovers between 57-59c while web browse/email. No heavy gaming ect. Under load I've seen temps of 68c.

The internal cooling is surprisingly quiet when running. The problem is,
it kicks on at 59c and runs for no more than 5-8 senconds and only dropping the cpu temp 1c from 59c to 58c. Odd to me. Shouldn't the cooling fan be running long enough to cool the cpu to the low 50's before cutting off?

The control for this function is called "Thermal Power Control" and is NOT user configurable via BIOS or software as stated in the user manual.

Any owners of this notebook experiencing these high idle temps?
got to be a way to get the fan to kick on and stay on longer for better cooling.

Don't know yet but I'm interested too. I just had my slot 1 memory module die from overheating (while I was playing a video game that chewed up 100% of CPU). I wasn't monitoring the CPU temperature at the time but I know the machine was hot, the fan was running non-stop.

on average, my machine (m6bne) runs between 52-55. sometimes it'll go into the high 50's. in gaming, the average range is about 62-65. I've seen it go as high as 72c.

I'm also curious how to tweak the settings.

Right now with my CPU at 95% idle, 600MHz, the CPU temp is 45C. My HDD is also at 46C. Doing a large compile with gcc under MinGW raises the CPU temp to about 67C peak, avg 65C. And watching MobileMeter the peak power draw seems to be ~37W.
Cutting the LCD brightness to minimum seems to drop that down to ~33W.

mine has never gone past 60 even after 2 hours of doom 3 surfing the internet usually is around 50, ambient temp is around 21

wow, really? I've seen mine go as high as 71. Were you using a cooling pad or something? Did you apply arctic silver?
