what does the tweaking programs really do? Is it worth fooling around with it? Does it really make a difference?

let me put it this way, i have winxp under a 233mhz Pent MMX and 64mb ram. Before the tweak boot time took nearly 2 minutes and responce time was about 1-3 seconds to open internet explorer. After some tweaking with TweakXP the boot time is down to 1 minute and responce time is down to 1-2 seconds. Worth it? I think so!

I thought it makes changes to the registry. You could make the changes on your own, but it would a big pain. These programs make it a lot easier to tweak.
