AW and Linux

Thread Starter
I'm looking at getting a lappy and I want performance and one of the other main things is Nvidia Go5700, because ATI and linux aren't the best mix, currently Mobility 9600Pro is the highest supported 3d in Linux, not good eh?

Anyway,

Are there any Linux users here running the Go5700 and if so, please tell me your expereince with the AW and Linux.

thx,

I'm running gentoo linux on my area51m with the 5700go and it works fine. Also what you said about radeon isnt really true either. I had all my radeon cards working with linux.. from the 9600 pro to the 9800 xt. It just takes some time, patience, and tweaking.

Whenever you can get gears to run for the first time you realize it was all worth it.

Thx for the reply, that is cool cause I will be running Gentoo ;-)

As far as the Radeon cards go, AFAIK Mobility 9600Pro is the highest supported card.

Mobility 9700 & 9800 aren't on the list???

Are there any tips/tricks with Gentoo and Area51? Do you have the wireless, does it work. How is the sound quality (speakers) on these or will I pretty much want to listen to headphones on games/mp3/ogg's ? Has it overheated on you?
