i keep getting this error message:

"There are no active mixer devices available. To install devices, go to Control Panel, click Printers and Other Hardware, and then click Add Hardware.

This program will now close"

i have an 8890 (3.2, 1 gig, 9600 pro turbo, xp pro... all drivers updated, windows totally updated).

while this problem is making doom 3 (second time trying to beat it...) a little elss scary, it is really obnoxious.

my sounds disappears after i come out of standby... and also sometimes it randomly stops just for the hell of it.

Hi,

I think your problem with the audio is that the service is turned off. Here is what to check

Start
Run
type "services.msc" no quotes
look for "AudioSrv" make sure it is set to automatic. Change if needed
and reboot.
Now go to the control panel and enable it

well... "AudioSrv" was not on the list...

so i can fairly say that the problem isn't solved... oh well.

i will play with it a little more.
