Possible good upgrade news for current XPS/9100 owners

Thread Starter
Dunno if any of you spotted this, but xbitlabs reported a few days ago that 3.6 and 3.8 GHz socket 478 processors made a surprise appearance on the Intel roadmap. I don't think anything is confirmed but chances look good that we might have a little more room to upgrade our laptops than previously expected.

hha that's gonna cost a bundle more money than what I think i'm willing to spend hehe, we'll see when the time comes if we are in need of more processing power

Yeah the performance gain would be minimal and not worth the cost.

I doubt that it's even compatible since the current XPS only supports 800MHz FSB.

Sounds like it would need other upgrades to support the chip then. Mobo & Power? I dunno, I'm not knowledge able in this area...

By the time most people would be interested in this type of upgrade (maybe in a year or so?), the price for these processors should be much more reasonable...right?

I believe the 1066FSB will only be available in the LGA775 socket, not the current XPS Socket N.

yup just reread the article - a little bit too good to be true - however...

Apparently, Intel’s slightly outdated Socket 478 infrastructure will see a number of fresh high-end processors, something that Intel did not want to introduce initially, such as, Intel Pentium 4 Extreme Edition 3.60GHz, Intel Pentium 4 “Prescott” 3.60GHz and even Intel Pentium 4 “Prescott” 3.80GHz processors

Hook it up with a 3.6GHz Extreme Edition!! I would be crazy enough now wouldnt I
