Satellite P30-RG4
P4 3.46 ,17 inch trubrite, 128 ati 9700.Regular Toshiba odds and sods.

Thought I was the only one with this model, but just saw a post on IL2 flight-sim site from another RG4 owner. So that's 2 of us then.
It's my 1st notebook and I'm liking it.Of course there's always things you learn more about after you've paid out,eg HDD speed/video card type, but at $2000 (Canadian) to my doorstep I got a good deal.
Now if only I can figure out how to use it right.

Tecra S1, 1GB mem, super-multi, wi-fi (that I never use), bluetooth which is great with my logitech mouse. Been good to me so far, mainly use it at work.

Got an old 480CDT for tuning my car (aftermarket ECU).

Also have a Satellite 1830 (pulled apart) that I want to have permanently set up in my car and connected to the ECU :P Want to have the LCD upside down and swing from the roof, wireless keyboard, etc. I will get around to it one day :P Put those incar 7" LCD DVD players to shame hehehe

Well, my A70 takes 200-pin SODIMM DDR SDRAM @ 333MHz (PC2700)

Check into the specs of your notebook. Toshiba, as well as the rest of the intarweb, wants to sell you 1GB of this stuff for $350US and up--$500US in some places. I found it for $190. And it got to my house in just a few days with standard shipping.

Woe is me... Tecra 8100: PIII, 600MHz, 256MB, 12GB (I'd bet it rocked about 5 years ago... but the times are a changin'). Gotta get this dissertation done so I can get paid more and get a new 'puta (probably a Tecra A4)

P25-S477, upgraded to 1-gig RAM, 7200 RPM 60-gig Hitachi drive.

But I just ordered a P25-S676, and upgrades to bring it to 2-gigs RAM, 5400 RPM 100-gig Toshiba drive.

I was about to buy a P35, but I saw some P25's still for sale, and the specs seem better, so I went with the P25.

I've had since August 2004:

A70-TS1 (SOLD)
P10-EE1 (SOLD)
A70-00V -this is where my trubrite love affair began! (SOLD)

M40-JM3 w/1gig total memory (CURRENT)

The great thing about this is.. all notebooks above were purchased brand new and had absolutely NO problems OR dead pixels.. TOSHIBA IS AWESOME!

The M40 is so much nicer than the bulkier A70 series.. I was pondering upgrading to the M40-YP3 but with the memory upgrade, th JM3 performs very well!

TECHNICAL NOTE:
If you have a M40-series and are running it on battery and noticed that a sound is followed by a 'pop' sound.. here is what i did to resolve that issue (1 of the 2 or both can be applicable):

1) go to your speaker setup under sound in control panel and if using only your laptop speakers, make sure it states that the speakers are setup to play out of laptop speakers.

2) go to the soundmax icon in control panel and disable any power save settings.

Got myself the M40 JM3

Happy to report that, based on the many recommendations on this forum, I ended up getting the M40 JM3. It's a beautiful laptop, and very fast. I'm upgrading from a Medion MD 40566 that developed a bad fan just before the warranty expired. Medion didn't have the part anymore, so Future Shop gave me full credit just in time for me to get this machine. What a difference!
As a bonus, I had bought a PC 2700 RAM for my old laptop from Kingston, and thought it might not work in my M40. Fortunately it works just fine.

I have my M30-UU9 I bought last May. The only problem with mine was one stuck (green) pixle. Fortunately I can easily not notice it. : )

Those M40 laptops look great but I think it's still too early to upgrade just yet. Buying a truck this fall also kills any laptop purchases for the forseeable future. : (

stuck pixels can be fixed by rubbing i heard.. serach the forums..

just got my new Portege S100 about an hour ago. Looks good so far. No dead pixels, and I'm burning my recovery DVD/CDs so I can do a complete clean install of XP onto one partition, and install my REAL OS, Linux, (Ubuntu or Gentoo), on another partition..

(It sure is light..)

Satellite P30-RG4

Your right, it looks like a great lappy used as a replacement desktop. I was checking one out at Future Shop for $2197.00 CDN. Where did you get yours from ? Have you seen any reviews or benchmarks ?

A75-s209

The specs are in my sig. I really like this laptop for what I need it to do. It's a little on the heavy side, but has a lot of power. It plays the games I want, and it looks great! I don't regret the purchase, but agree with some of the others here, that I should have done my research before buying, so I'd know more about what I was getting. I didn't realize shared memory was so unfavorable. But hey, UT2004 looks and runs great on it!

NOTE: I've also been one of the lucky ones, and don't have any problems with freezing up or not booting up. Works great, every time!
