4060 - Integrated WiFi

Anyone know the maker and the chipset used?

trying to figure out if i want the built-in wireless nic.

and as far as bluetooth goes, would this be something to consider? I don't see many bluetooth products out there... I've read up on the bluetooth website and still i don't understand it's use. Can someone help decide for me (with logical explination) so i can hurry up and buy this damn thing? hehe

thanks!

I'd definately get a wireless nic... especially if it's only a few bucks (under $50) as it can be more useful than not.

Re: 4060 - Integrated WiFi

most defintely. but is the integrated on worth it? would like to keep the appearence of the laptop minimalistic (i.e. no little plastic bits sticking out).

Thanks for you quick replies. your amount of posts intimidate me

seems only 11b is available internal. wouldn't 11g be a better choice?

Well, if minimalistic appearances are desired, integrated is DEFINATELY the way to go, as it is not seen at all. The antenna is in the LCD (behind it) and the card is under the keyboard.

I'd also get BlueTooth, just because it's cool to have and many new "gadget" devices are coming with it (PDA's, cellphones, etc). It is also inside (I believe).

the 'Integrated Wireless' option increases price by $85.00

The info button says it connects to the 11b standard but doesn't statate that it is, itself, a 11b.

would you recommend it? kinda steep price for 11b but i see the advantage of having the antenna behind the screen... makes for more room for a bigger antenna

I think $85 is a bit steep, seeing how 802.11b is "kinda-sorta" on the way out in terms of popularity. Many people are going for COMBO cards (a/b/g) and this causes strictly 'b' stuff to drop in value/price. Hopefully, Sager will be kind to us and give us a price break.

Maybe we can bug Adam to bug Sager. Either that or offer a combo card for that much.

Still, it is a VERY handy thing to have, but if $85 becomes a make-or-break... well, look around and see how much a wireless PC Card costs and compare it, then make the decision.
