(another) HELP! Choosing my notebook now! M6BNe? Dell? Other? - Page 2

Also check out the AOpen 1557GLS, if you haven't already. It's just like the Asus M6n with less style than the CL-56.
And it's very cheap if your going to build it. Get it with the dvd-drive from MyAOpen.com and the rest of the parts from where ever you want.
Check out my sig to see how much it cost me with my config.

Why do you say get it with the DVD drive?

Barebones 3790 is 999 at RJTech. Anyone know why I can't find a 1.6Ghz dothan for sale anywhere?

That 1557 is nice and the price is great too, but I pulled the trigger on the Asus M6BNe!

I ordered so much stuff that all the orders were initially put on hold until I approved them with my CC people. Got a fraud alert

Here it is!!!!!!!!!
Asus M6BNe 15.4" WXGA
Radeon 9700 64MB
1Gig Kingston pc2700
M6 DVD/CD-rom combodrive
60gb/7200rpm HDD
1.7 Dothan
2200 B/G
Bag
Mouse
Arctic Silver 5
$1,620

Smash me some bananas!!!!!!!!!!

yah, on that one dell forum they were using knoppix and maybe some program to tell. Can i post the link to the dell forum here that explains it?
I think AIDA32 will tell you what screen you got. It is a free program.

Congrats on your new laptop! Your thread got more replies than mine and I was/still am on the same boat as you -- Dell or Asus. My 4 year old Dell lappy is still working so I decided I don't need to buy a new one right now. But it is good to stay on top of technology.

Where did you get your M6N if I may ask? Good price.
@ Kronus:
Congrats on the new lappy and great choice btw.

@Maxwell:
Kronus probably got the Asus as a barebone and will be building it himself. This, however may not allow for that much warrenty on the Asus. An Asus M6BNe, in Kronus' configuration, will cost around 1900 or so but this will bring along some warrenties, as well.
If you are willing to get a lappy with good warrenty I suggest you buy the Asus assembled or just go for the DeLL 8600 - it is a good laptop but. most of all, Dell have some very good warrenties on their products. Otherwise, in terms of pure quality, the Asus is years ahead of 8600.

Update on stuff

Hehehehe, yah, I get no warranty, except on individual parts. It's a gamble I know but I save some $ and the odds are mostly in my favor because of Asus' great quality. (knock on wood ) The dell was a draw because of its screen(wsxga+), bluetooth & warranty. But in the end I liked the look and feel of the Asus and the 9700, even though it's only 64mb.

Hmm, that dell warranty would be nice if I try to OC too much and fry it("I don't know what happened dell, i was typing my final paper and the laptop stopped working, I am a stupid moron that knows nothing about computers, but I do know that my dad's a lawyer and you better fix it" or something like that )

I gotta say that www.spacecentersystems.com was extremely helpful in finding the correct combodrive for my notebook. I wouldn't hesitate to order from them. Thanks Chad!

Asus M6BNe 15.4" WXGA = compuadds.com
Radeon 9700 64MB
1Gig Kingston pc2700 = circuitcity
M6 DVD/CD-rom combodrive = spacecentersystems.com
60gb/7200rpm HDD = newegg.com
1.7 Dothan = newegg.com
2200 B/G = newegg.com
Bag
Mouse
Arctic Silver 5 = svc.com

@Maxwell I will try that program and dig around with SiSoft Sandra as well!

My AS5 came today Ordered on thursday, here on Sat. Nice, now if everything else would show up Compuadds refuses to give me tracking #'s because
Quote:
it is our policy of Compuadds.com not to release tracking numbers to prevent orders being re-routed to unapproved addresses.
This is the 1st company i have ever seen that does this. How is it safe for amazon, newegg, etc etc etc etc but not for them. Maybe it's for the best because I spend so much time checking tracking info But NO, how will I know to be home so I don't miss my package!?!?! Argh. Anyway, more questions anyone?

He prob picked up the 2.0 and HDD from newegg.

If I remeber correctly, Surge got his AOpen 1557 BAREBONE from myaopen.com and bought the 1.7 Dothan he had before the 2.0 from eBay at a good price. But this was until he got his hands on the 2.0 Dothan (doubt it was newegg) and then the 1.7 went into his sister's lappy - this is why it is good to have siblings

oh that's right, i remember reading that in his thread i think. no siblings here

I emailed ATI about the availability of the TV WONDER USB 2.0 and I got a form response on availability

Some wireless headphones would be great though. Anybody know of a good bang for your buck pair?(NOT IR VERSION) I'm no audiophile, i'm using a $10 pair of Koss behind the head from walgreens now They're fine but a lightweight wireless pair would be sweet.

Well, no siblings here either.
As for headphones, I am not some maniac for sound so I jest went to BestBuy and picked up a pair of Antec Lansing - very light and flexible used on the back of the head. Sound is great by my standards. If you want something more special I have read about Zalman headpnones somewhere on these forums. Just do a search for Zalman and they will come up. Cost is 50 bucks.
Oh, the Antec Lansing I got cost me 15 or 20 buck I forgot but they are pretty nice and most importantly they are portable unlike the Zalman pair which seem to be pretty big and probably won't fit that easily in a lappy case.

All the wireless headphones I've seen are around $60 for the lowest models. Streaming music from my laptop to wherever I am is pretty cool though. I saw a bluetooth pair of headphones for $250, ouch. And they came with a big dongle/box as txmitter.

Can anyone post the order of installation of software for the asus. I know there's basically one order to install or you get problems. OS>?drivers>other drivers>intel drivers>asus powerstepping drivers?????????? Omega drivers are in there somewhere Thanks!
