A 2nd fedex truck arrived!!!!!!!!!!! Got laptop! Waiting on optical drive.

What the heck do I do now?!?!? Must calm down....breath...breath...you can't apply AS5 with your hands shaking like that....

Someone said you need lots of light when building this and that's VERY true. I have the Maglite in my teeth to see what I'm doing better

If you had paid 2400 for the Asus w1n it would have been there.

Well if I had known it didn't come with a mouse I would have paid the extra $700 and gotten it.

OK j/k

What do you think of the WXGA?

It seems great so far. The text looked a little pixelated at first like when you zoom in in photoshop, but it's readable. I compared text to printed text and it seems to be about 11pt on screen. I turned on cleartype and I'm trying to decide which way it looks best. I posted in another thread(s) about playing CS:Source Beta on it and it looks fantastic. Much better than my 17" CRT and AIW Radeon 8500. I'm debating whether I should load up DOOM3 on it because I'm not that adicted to it and it takes up lots of space. I still need an enclosure for my harddrive and I'm feeling cheap right now and can't seem to shell out more $$ for 1 or 2.Firewire/usb/combo? They're like 45 bucks for a good one I just payed ~500 for books too(most of my classes changed to different books so used weren't available )

I'll be able to say more about it when I start using it more. I'm still on my desktop because I leave for college in ~18 hrs <-eek!

The quality of the screen is top notch. As far as resolution goes, if you are not used to WSXGA or above you will not have any issues, none at all. But even if you are, it will only be a matter of 1-2 weeks, I'd say, until you get used to it and sieze seeing any difference from WSXGA. I guess, it is all a matter of getting into the habbit of looking at WXGA. After that, WSXGA will probably seem "weired" to you.

I have some extra asus badges so shoot me a PM and I will send you the details. Please keep in mind that I'm moving in ~17 hours, have nothing packed, and am freaking out I will do my best to send them out ASAP.

And if anyone can post their color settings(gamma.brightness,??) on their asus that would be great. I can't seem to get the screen tuned quite right, but then again it might just not be possible to make it look like my crt colors.

what about cooling for the CPU? How does that work in a laptop? And what about cooling for the graphics chip and chipset? I'm guessing some type of small passive heatsinks epoxid to the chips?

HERE are some pics at the bottom of the page where they show the heatpipe module removed from the Asus. I inserted the Dothan, put on arctic silver, replaced the copper heatpipe over it and screwed it down. At the end of the heatpipe is a fin assembly and the fan blows over that. The gpu is covered by the chassis and I didn't want to take the whole thing apart b/c it would involve removing parts of the lcd and more screws than I could count or find. I did see a site in another language where they had the WHOLE thing apart. The gpu has another copper heatpipe going over it and it runs parallel with the cpu's heatpipe and has fins on the end just like the cpu's. You can seee it in the pics at the legit reviews link above. Asus uses shin etsu as the thermal compound preinstalled. It outcools arctic silver 3 in tests. I already bought the AS5 so I put it on. I should have lapped the cpu's copper cover but I was running short on time. Maybe if the 2.0 dothan drops to ~$200 in my lifetime and is overclockable I will redo it

Just two small questions,
when I went to Dell, i tried looking at the 8600, both custom and preconfig, but didn't see the 128mb vid card. How were you able to select that option?
and also, how pleased are you with the 15.4 wxga? I'm trying to decide between getting a wxga or wsxga.

I really like the wxga, but i would like to compare it to the wsxga sometime in the future.

I went to dell, choose the 8600 from the drop down blue bar at the top under notebooks, the clicked the green configure it button, choose proc and windows, click continue, scroll down to video card and it is the last option(the 128mb radeon 9600 pro turbo $99 upgrade)

What about that new Uniwell with the super duper MR9700?

that's just a little over your config price

hey guys,
I am looking to purchase another laptop as my ZT3000 doesn't cut it for my 3D drawings.
The M6Bne is looking pretty good. Has anyone ordered from agearnotebooks.com? Has anyone tried the PortBar for this laptop?
