Intel 855GM Chipset

Right now I am considering 2 laptops (fujitsu pc's 2310 and 7010). They both have a 855GM chipset. I've been wondering how well these chipsets perform on the following games.... Diablo 2, starcraft, and unreal tournament. I have checked the forum some and found a reference document on intels website saying they will run... but I would like some accounts with peoples experiences. Are some of these choppy, slow, unresonsive to the mouse like its lagging, etc, etc.

Diablo 2 in 800 x 600 instead of its initial 640 x 480 with lots of activity.

Unrealtournent in 800 x 600.

Thanks.

depends purely on the video, since its integrated im guessing intel extreme graphics, which i have no experience with. those are extremely old games and extremely low resolutions so most likely you wont have any problems.

The 855GM which I believe has the Intel Extreme Graphics 2. It will run those games perfectly and without any problems however you won't be able to run some newer games. If you enjoy playing old games like Diablo 2 which I also play too then you won't have a problem with the intergrated graphics.

No, no, no. I have Diablo 2 L.O.D. (the best game ever, did I already say it?? ), Unreal Tournament Game of the Year Edition (I played StarCraft some times, but I don't have it). Although my computer is a Celeron 2.4, it has exactly the same intel integrated graphics and 512 RAM PC2100, and I can only run Diablo 2 L.O.D. on 640x480 _without_ 3D Perspective enabled. Shadows and all things on low quality..... UT is crappy. I can only run with 512x4XX-something.... (medium settings) really bad....

StarCraft will perform excellent, trust me. But if you want to play others, don't buy them.... really.

This is essentially the techspecs of the chipset from the website.

"Intel 855GM video graphics chip with integrated 32-bit 3D/2D gfx core delivering low power, high performance Extreme Graphics with AGP support; Dynamic Video Memory Technology (DVMT) dynamically responds to application requirements and efficiently allocates up to 64 MB of system memory for optimal graphics and system performance."

Checked out the chipset in properties on the laptop... It is the extreme graphics version 2. Whatever that means... Its great working in a store where you can check on all the specs.

Look, Fujitsu screens are good, but this graphics unit is not even close the true meaning of the words "high performance". I know about 64MB. I took 32 mb out of RAM (for some reason it has 32 mb 'dedicated') making it 64mb and it's still not even close what I had on my old desktop (Athlon XP 1700+, 256mb PC2700, totally off-board ASUS mb, MSI GeForce 4 something 64mb ddr - don't remember if it was MX or Ti now...)

If you like those games like I do, don't go with "Intel Inextreme Graphics"...

the Intel 855G scores a little over 2000pts on 3DMark '01. That's equivalent to a TNT2 Ultra?
