Thats 1000MBits/s which is theoretically faster than either USB2.0 and Firewire B.
just remenber that it is not the only device that uses that bandwith eather.

Although the USB 2.0 is speedier than the FireWire, the latter beats it when used in high-speed storage devices. Probably, future products will unveil and use the full potential of the USB 2.0 bus. If we take only the storage devices sphere, the optimal solution would be a combo USB 2.0/FireWire -IDE bridge. In this case a user would get the maximum flexibility when choosing the ways of connection of data storage devices.

- A real mess with 4, 6, and 9-pin connectors. Quote: "Where's the right cable?!?"
- A real mess with names: Firewire = i.Link = IEEE 1394 = DV.
arent usb connectors a mess too. There are the regular usb connectors that look like rectangles, then the ones on printers and cable modems that look like squares and then those ones on digital cameras that are small squares.
Do the different usb connectors actually do anything? like the firewire 4 pin is nonpowered, 6 pin is powered, 9 pin is firewire 800 etc.

Yes, there are rather many USB connectors too, but all external USB hard drives (and most other devices too) use the same A-B type connector cable (a square connector and a flat connector).
