Windows 2000 and Port Forwarding

This is pretty dang off-topic, but hopefully that's okay. I came here because, like I've said before, y'all know what you're talking about and you're always watching the threads, so hopefully somebody will be able to help me with this.

I'm running a little LAN in my house. We have 4 clients running through a Win2000 Pro server system - running standard ICS, with 2 NICs - which in turn goes through a cable modem and out into the Matrix (lame, but I couldn't help myself). Recently, I've developed an affinity for that lovely program known as eDonkey2000. The only problem is that I can't connect to the ED servers. I know it's a port-forwarding issue. I actually got it to work for a while using Sygate Office Network, but it caused more problems than it was worth, plus the ports changed recently and I forgot how I did it the first time. So I'm back on plain ol' ICS, which is fine, but I can't figure out how to open the ports so my computer (client behind the network) can punch through the firewall that W2K has somewhere, so I can talk to the ED servers.

I've looked at every FAQ in the world on ICS and port forwarding/mapping, but they're all too nebulous and don't make any sense. Is anybody out there up to the challenge of walking this poor networking newbie through the ICS configuration, telling me WHICH ports and settings correspond to the incoming and outgoing, etc., possibly using EXAMPLES? I'm desperate here!

Thanks everybody!

PC Magazine [LOL :=)] had a Utilities spread in the latest issue, including a slewwww of freebies for Networking and Port analysis. Check it out. Good luck!

Well, I looked at that article you linked me to, but it didn't really help at all. But it got me looking again, and I found this one obscure story somewhere on opening ports, and I tried something a little different from what I've been doing, and BAM! I'm through! So, in a way, you helped me out after all! Thanks a TON!

I love when one of the many zeroes in my brain becomes a one. One step closer to digital enlightenment!

Dynamite. Glad you got it fixed. Sometimes a little nudge in any direction tips the scale.
