Azureus is the best, period. No comparisson. Especially for security because it only uses ONE port, and it also has the safepeer plugin which is like a firewall just for BitTorrent. It basically blocks any/all IPs of any/all companies/government affiliates that you wouldn't want connecting to you.

But if you have a slow POS computer, that has very little RAM then BitTornado is also good. This is only because Azureus tends to eat more resources since its Java based.

For all of you Azeraus client users out there. How do you use it? All it is doing when I try and download a file is sit and displays "checking" over and over again. When I unistalled Azeraus and just used the basic bittorrent client the file starts downloading again.

The only time azureus would do this is if you had downloaded say 90% of a 4.3 GB file, and then closed Azureus, then the next time you start it Azureus has to check the file and see what packets it has and which it doesn't. This sometimes take a minute or two, and could take even 10-15 minutes depending on the file. And it would only take that long if you shut down your computer in the middle of the process, so it got confused.

You need to do some reading on how BT works. You aren't downloading a file from start to finish, your downloading bits and pieces throughout the entire thing.

Fun, about 20 min. later it finally started. Yes the download is large. The software is not user friendly and the options are not obvious. Next point: it keeps trying to alter my ports. My firewalls don't like that, and I'm not sure that I like that either. A guide would be great, but I can't seem to find one. Funny thing is, I found a guide for download as a torrent, but I have to be able to get it first.

I used to use Shareaza but it has major problems when downloading larger torrents (8 gigs and up). I use Azureus now and it is great . As stated before Newsgroups is the way to go these days for almost everything. Basically all I use BT for is to get anime and music everything else is on newsgroups and I don't have to upload .

edit: links for anime

I found this on another thread, and I thought I'd ask it here. Someone said BitTorrent clients open a range of ports. But BitComet only asks for one port. Is this an option that varies from client to client? Which port does your client need open?
The port you have open doesn't really matter. Although you should not use the default port 6881, because ISP's are starting to limit the bandwidth from this port. The clients which use only one port are best, for many reasons. Azureus and any that you can choose the port for have the option to change it. Again, I suggest anybody to switch the port you use from 6881 to whatever else you want. Remember that you will need to forward whatever port you decide on, if you use a router.
