4750 screen vs HP Brightview, Fujitsu Crystal View

How does the Sager display (specifically, the 4750) compare with the new HP Brightview screen used on the ZD7000 or the Fujitsu Crystal View and some of these other new bright screens that have come out? I haven't seen any of these yet, but everybody seems to be raving about them. I do a lot of Photoshop work, so brightness, contrast, clarity are important to me. I'm going to go to Best Buy today and see if they have the HP on display. Of course, I won't be able to see a 4750 before I buy one, so wanted to get you guys' input, from somebody that maybe has seen both of them.

I'm very close to buying the 4750, just have to get by this screen issue.

Thanks in advance, and by the way, I love this forum!!

the 4750, I gather from this forum, is the same screen used in the 8790 and 4790....
This screen is similar to that of the Sony VAIO A Series w/17" wuxga, except for the fact that sager has the wsxga+ screen. The two screens are similair in glossyness and look, IMO i think the sager screens are a little more glossy-er but I was looking at a well used floor model....

excuse my gramatical errors, i just got off a 8hr grave yard shift and have slept for only 2hrs. I cant sleep right now

don't worry zasquatch, this screen is incredible. You will not be disappointed in any way. Don't let all the fancy names confuse, the 4750 is just as good or better than the fujitsu's and sony's

Thanks, Hentai and Ogre.

I looked at the Sony and the HP tonight at Best Buy. I was very impressed. Had those machines been equipped like the 4750 I may have bought one right there on the spot. They looked like glare may be a problem at times, but they looked so good, I think I could put up with a little glare now and then to have that screen, but I don't want to put up with the weak video cards.

If there is an image on the screen, the glare is not a problem.

yeah, I haven't noticed any glare on the 4750 screen.

would you still be able to work on it if you were sitting outside or inside a car on a sunny day?
I dunno if I'd want to work outside period or in a car. As long as you don't catch the sun's reflection in your screen I would think it would work.

Direct sunshine normally equals to ICSS. I Can't See .......

I hope others will add their experience to this thread. I'm a photographer and am paying close attention to "screen" subjects. I've seen the xBrite, CrystalView and others. At first they look fabulous because it's like bright clear glass. But after paying some attention I thought that glare would be a real issue when working in Photoshop.

I think most members here are gamers, though, and it probably wouldn't be an issue for them. If anyone works with graphics programs I'd love to see comments.

I'm an animation major. I used it for maya and its really impressive for that. Also for web browsing its very enjoyable. There isn't glare unless your work with the light shining directly behind it and its a black background. I really liked American McGee's Alice BTW although I haven't finished it.

thanks Mayaman2, I appreciate the input. When I finally decide on a laptop it will have to have SXGA but I keep vascillating on wide screen.

I'm not a gamer but I actually bought Alice. I haven't finished it either because I developed some hand problems, but I hope to get back to it someday ;-)

No problem. But a wsxga screen is going to have much better viewing angles than the sxga. You should go to a local computer store, and test out a wsxga or wxga screen and a sxga screen. See how far you can see the picture before it gets to dark or hard to see.

Does the 4750 and 8790 screen brightness really compare to sony's Xbrite??
I know for a fact my 5690's screen brightness doesn't even come close to Sony's XBrite screens
post #16 of 18
Its quite close. Although right now mines at the dimmest setting since I'm running a battery test.

Mayaman, I've looked at WXGA screens around town but it's near impossible to find a WSXGA or even an SXGA for that matter on display anywhere. It's frustrating.

I did manage to find one SXGA screen at a shop that let me test out manipulating the system fonts etc. Since I also wear glasses I needed to know if I could handle SXGA. The photographic image quality and ability to increase font size convinced me this is the way to go.

Every WideScreen I've seen, though, has what seems like a clear glass/plastic cover over the screen. In a store setting they all seemed glossy & bright but with a lot of glare. Perhaps in a normal setting that wouldn't be so predominant.

That's true. A store generally doesn't have the same lighting as one home does. I think its generally softer at home. As long as there is an image on the screen you usually won't see a reflection. Sometimes you can on black backgrounds though.
