thinking of selling my 5680....

heres the thing,I really like this machine allot....but I made a mistake last year in not looking for a model with a serial com port.,I run some devices and software that require I have one of those ports.
I know I would take a hurting on this....
But what other options do I have, and although the usb-serial converter gets me past some of the hardware issues....some of the software I have to use looks for that port.I've tried a virtual port{dummie port}but that won't work either ?

do any of the sager laptops still offer a mid-high end machine with this type of port ?

I'n not sure what else I can do ?

2.8,1 gig of memory,uxga,60 gig 5600 rpm,dual batteries,dvd burner,
xp pro, targus deluxe case, extra power pack.

I gotta come up with a fair price for this laptop,I also purchased the extra 3 years of warranty on it ,as well as the automobile adaptor.
I'd like to sell it fast ?not sure what's a fair fast selling price ?

Have you tried any of the configurable USB hubs. They have one from IO Networks the Edgeport series i think. They are configurable (comport # assignment, port speed etc.)

Or even the PCMCIA Serial/Dual IO adapters http://www.globalmarinenet.net/socketserial.htm

These work pretty well too.

Yeah they do. We used the ruggedized ones that are evenmore expensive. We usually end up banging them around alot on the road.

going to place the order in the morning !!

going to get the dual rugedized one !!
this solved a boat load of hassles for me....{if it works} I'm still a bit skeptical} that it be seen as an actual "serial" com port, but it would make my day !!

It will! In fact we used to use two of the dual ones in the old thinkpads we used for data collection. I guess the only thing i would look out for is that the pigtails sticks out a little, so if you actually have your laptop on your lap be carefull with the leg, or chair arm, or console etc. I don't recall ever breaking one but I felt my stomache curl when when i hit it.

If you have a spare USB port, there's also a USB to serial dongle type adapter for an avg price of $35.00:
