Looking for a laptop cooler for my 4750 - Page 2

I love Bytecc Aluminum Notebook Cooler. I use it with my Compaq Presario 2182US (2.4GHz Celeron).
Turn off the fans with 50% load : CPU 64C HDD 53C
Turn on the fans with 50% load : CPU 56C HDD 50C (over 8C different)

I'm not sure how it will work out with the Sager 4750, but I'm going to order Sager 4750 soon if there is no news about new model coming out next month.

I did the Antec thing, reversed the fans, added feet to the computer, and noticed only a SLIGHT improvement. I really don't think it is for Sager, although it works great for my Compaq Presario, and Fujitsu. I went to HomeDepot and got some 1" and 3/4" feet and use them now with better results temp wise. I have just returned from the 90-100 temps of Jamaica and my temps never went over 46deg F with the feet and MaxFan. If anyone is wanting to get a cheap Antec, email me.

are their any coolers designed for a 17inch?

I just got my Nexus heat-pipe cooler today and it seems to be working really well, the bottom of my laptop nowhere near as hot as it ised to be. my highs and lows for cpu temps haven't really changed but the tme between fan cycles is much longer now. the HD is much cooler, it used to stay around 54C now it stays around 46C. I haven't gamed yet so I'll tell ya how much good it does then. the feet on the 4750 just fit on top of the cooler, but it's very stable. It helps with typing too. overall I'm quite satisfied so far.

I think a picture would be nice.

can you quote temp differences of the cpu?

Also where did you buy it from and for how muh??? does the store where you bought it from have a return policy?
I bought it from buyextras.com, I'm not sure about their return policy, but it was about 40 bucks with shipping and it arrived right on time.

I can say that it cooled that HD by at least 8C, and that the bottom of the machine is MUCH cooler, still slightly warm tho. the fans turn on less too
post #28 of 44
so the heat pipe spreads the heat from the hd but not the cpu?
no, it does take heat away from the cpu. it takes heat away from the whole machine. the fans come on much less often, but I haven't gamed with it yet, I'm still trying to work out some problems

I bought the antec cooler and i tried switching the fans around but found that the way they came first worked better. I found about a 7*C difference between it and stock for my cpu. Fans don't stay on while gaming either they become sporadic.
i just got the targus. i see a 5 degree Celsius for HDD temperature difference.

I am gonna get the antec. I hear better things about it. reversing the fans so that they blow into the intake fans should be GreAT. maybe reverse just one, so one blows up, one down.

But even this targus is pretty good. I have Ferrari 3200...the HD (left palm) ran pretty hot. Now it's a very bearable warm temp.
OGRE, please let us know how well the Nexus works while gaming. Does your laptop sit directly ON the Nexus? Do you have to take off your rubber feet of your laptop, so that it is directly on it? My Ferrari 3200 has feet ;o

thanks
no, I don't take the feet off (there's actually 9 of them so that would be pointless). It rests maybe a 1/4 of an inch above the cooler. what it does is cool the air beneath the laptop that the fans are sucking in (and it also makes the bottom of the laptop cool too). Of course it's dead silent, but somehow managed to cool the HD by 8C. I think I'm gonna do a test when I wake up later today to see how it affects gaming, so nite nite until then guys

do you have a cpu temperature sensor so that you could detect cpu temps?
I posted this some time ago, havent tried the PCMCIA option but it seems for those that have the 8790's that the area that gets 'hot' is the left hand palm rest area. The ONLY place that sells it is here (anyone willing try?) - http://www.mitcomputers.ca/products/...stem/page3.htm

What do you guys think of this cooler?

Its alot more open then most other designs, so i think it might actually cool better, plus its only like 17 bucks, and it folds up!

yeah, mobilmeter does that too and amd dashboard as well. so far I haven't noticed any difference in my max and min temps when doing light stuff but the fans don't come on as often. I have yet to test it when gaming, so I'll letcha know
post #37 of 44
k thanks much... i'd prefer buying a cooler that gives me a min of 5 degrees celcius cpu temperature difference..
well I just played Halo for a good half hour and I alt-F4'ed it and the cpu was only at 55C. I usually got around 60-65C w/o it so it definitely works. as soon as I apply as5 this thing will really be cool n quiet
post #39 of 44
I want to see a picture of it. Does it raised the laptop up for better ventillation or is that not needed with the heat pipe? How much did it cost as well. And Ogre can your break 15000 on 3dmark01 and have it up on orb. I will try to do that with AC, a fan directed at the laptop and it propped up. But it would be nice if you could push it even further due to the heat pipe. A dellite has the top score with 15000.

once I get as5 applied and a big fan blowing at it I'll do some more benching, I spooked myself last time.

sry, don't have a digi cam, but there are pics of it online somewhere. just google nexus heat pipe cooler. yes, it does raise it up in the front and even more in the back. it's solid aluminum (I think) painted black and it has lots of hole everywhere for ventilation. the heat pipes are attached underneath the metal surface and draw heat from the center which dissipates out the sides at the top of the cooler, away from the laptop.
