DVDs not playing, CDs not burning, DVD Data Discs Not reading

Some of you may remember a while back I was having issues with the DVD/RW Combo Drive after a reformat.

After a few exchanges via Alienware tech support my situation hasn't improved.

I can read normal CDs fine. Play normal CDs fine.
I can't play DVDs at all, it crashes PowerDVD/Win Media.
I can't read DVD datadiscs without getting a "cylical error" messages or something in that vien.
I can't burn regular CDs or DVDs.

Now it worked fine before the reformat. Perfect. No issues. Alienware is now saying that it may be a bad drive, which makes ZERO sense to me because it was working until the reformat.

Everything tells me its a software issue, right?

I have the latest OmegaDrivers installed, and all default drivers from the Utility CD.

Does anyone have any other ideas of what could be causing me problems?

I really don't want to send it back to Florida, but I'm running out of avenues quick here.

The only thought I have is that possible a pin in the CD drive or on the Lappy got bent or broken when seating the drive. If you have never taken the drive out and it worked before, this is not the problem. But if you have taken the drive out in the past, check the pins and make sure they are all there.

This is speculating that a) you can take the drive out, and b) there are pins. I don't own an AW, so I don't know.

Edit 1 - Also, alot of users on here have had problems with PowerDVD 5 on AW, if you are using 5, go back to 4 and see if it helps.

One of you Dell Mods wanna move this back to the AW peer to peer section for me...I accidentally moved it to your peer to peer section...and I'm powerless over here

Thanks!

It could be the drive, you should try using one of the many versions of linux or WINPE that run off DVD drive... If it fails before Win, then the culprit IS the drive..
