Wireless on my M6807 is gonna be the end of me

Hey,
I just installed a wireless network at home. But my wireless card doesn't detect it. I'm sure I have the correct drivers (broadcom 802.11g). I went to 'broadcom wireless utility' in control panel and ran the diagnostics test. Everything but the 'memory tests' passed the diagnostics...heres wut the built in help had to say about that particular test:

Microcode memory test failed.

This tests verifies that the network controller internal memory is functioning properly. The test writes patterned values to the memory and reading back the results. The test fails if an erroneous value is read back. The network controller will not function without its internal memory.

help would be much appreciated thanks.

I'm not trying to be a smart a$$, but that test just told you what the problem is.

so...what do i do about it

I know....i was wondering what I could do about it to make it work. i.e. is the memory on the wireless card itself or does it reserve a sector in my RAM, which would tell me if its fixable (and if it is....how?). Thanks

The wireless card in the emachines 68XX notebooks {looks to be user replaceable} but you would probably have to go thru emachines to get it replaced.

If your notebook is still under waranty, you should give emachines a call to see about repairs.

Or you could just get a new wireless card. The slot is user accesable. The only problem is I'm wondering if the wireless enable key would still work...
It's a MiniPCI Wireless card, you can replace it wit any MiniPCI wireless card. And the enable wireless key should work.

Even though you bought it on eBay it should still be covered under the manufacturers warranty because it is still within a year from the manufacture date (I say should because I remember we had to get this clarified because of ambiguity concerning eBay and other such places. if you happened to have gotten the receipt with it then the warranty is transferred in it's entirety). If you decide to go that route be sure to ask whoever you get on the phone.

If it didn't come with CDs it wasn't brand new. Or it was at least opened.

If the memory is not working on the card, it is shot.

All right heres the deal...
I swapped the miniPCI wireless cards with a friend's M6805. I ran the broadcom test on my laptop (with the other wireless card in it) and it still says "memory tests: failed". At the same time i ran the test on the M6805 with MY original broadcom card in it...passed all the tests. Can any1 make sense of this for me and suggest a solution? Much appreciated...
-Jerry

P.S. My friend has Windows XP Home on his M6805 and I have XP pro...think that has anything to do with it?

Runa DOS based memory tester for an extended period of time to see if the system RAM is what is is referring to.

Another thing....I borrowed a NetGear, 54MBps, 802.11a Wireless Adapter, 32-bit cardBus, HA501 I plugged it in, and it does not detect my wireless network. I also have a USB wireless adapter (linksys 802.11b @ 2.4 GHz), and THAT detects my network just fine, so theres no problem with my network/router. Now this PCMCIA card runs (transmits?) at 5 GHz, while my Linksys wireless router is an 802.11b running at 2.4 Ghz and it has no setting to operate at 5 Ghz. You think that might me the problem?

Memtest86 is a good one. They have burnable ISOs there, so you'll need a program that can burn ISOs.

That's the problem in that case. Unless otherwise specified in the equipment (as in it can support both) 'A' wireless doesn't talk to 'B/G' wireless.

Yep, it would make a difference. A, unless otherwise specified, will not run with B or G.
