A lost alien

post #1 of 47

Hi...

I must leave the alienware universe. well not must. its my desision and my dads. i convinced him (i think) so this is still undecided. but i am going to sell my AW area-51m. I think i might do it on e-bay. or if one of you guys wants it and is willing to pay ____ for it. i said ___ cuz i dont even know a starting price. basicly it must cover some of the costs of the alienwares arival money. $3092 was how much i bought it for. its a good computer for colledge kids and rich people. lol. but im neither and have no use for it but to dl prn and burn music. so im going back to my old homebuilt a64 3200+ supercomputer. the reason i left that computer was whenever i started a game of BF1942 demo it would power down the system. and i didnt know why. so im going to format that computer and install a fresh copy of win xp prof and get that workin. but first anything i need to back up on this lappie must be backed up to cd. when im done with that and its up on e-bay or one of you buys it. ill be leaving. BUT NOT FOREVER. ill still come back to these forums. cuz you guys are so nice. and helpful. so cheers and if you wanna talk to me or my dad here are our e-mails. if you e-mail my dad put in the RE:jacks computer. One cool extra ill include i dont know if for free but its the messenger case.

Better yet just PM me.

Thats actually a better route to go;

A fairly powerfull desktop for big time number-crunching and fine-tuned perhaps for gaming; and a light, highly-mobile notebook that isn't a pain to lug around. This is for the more specialized use of two computers, rather than making a compromise on one machine. For me, that good compromise is the Area 51m.

Good luck with everything.

Honestly RdLdr, that's what I want to do eventually. Get a big powerful DT and a small (12" scren anyone?) laptop for mobile chatting and stuff. This is a great step until I can pull off those two.

I h8 workstations there to restricting in moving them.
Laptops are the way of the future (still gonna take a long time. Shall we say 3-5months lol)

Due to the way I work and play, a laptop is the only way to go. The more powerful the better. And if it can play games too, that's just gravy.

So umm you shelled out 3000 dollars just to play BF1942?

huh. no. who shelled out 3k for bf1942? if you mean me. then no. i built my desktop for 1.7k. but the laptop orginal plan was to bring to my private school, for work and to play pocket tanks and show off my pure power. but my lack of school work since then since im more occupied fixing the laptop or ocing something i couldnt bring it into the school after like 3 weeks of first having it. and now i got my tungsten E to show off at my new private school this year. these private schools arnt for brainiacs (i wish) there for mentally unstable kids.

amd's are better at rendering in 3d programs. that for sure.

Hykster. I just dont like AMD. :d and i was trying to have a lil stir.
Also AMD atm does have its down points.

64bit - usless, It has less use than area51m upgrability

Iv had both chips. Running Windows AND *nix.
Amd = *nix
intel = Windows

AMD has more instant power but it slowly gets worse and worse. Where Intel can keep the same usage 24/7

And, If your running windows id rather go with the company that works closly with windows to try and get the best performance and no erros like bsods. (i have never had a bsod running intel on XP)

How did you messure them?
Did they have the same software?
Did they have the same setup in performance?

Really there small tweaks which can boost any chip (im not talking OC)

i see, those benchmarks are all bottlenecked at the video card....

what kind of videocard do you have in that AMD machine?
its probably the onyl real difference between the systems....

what is "slow" about your 51m? is it just your benchmark scores?

no machine, witha 2.8+ ghz processor anda gig of RAM is slow unless you load it with crap.
