Windows XP Service Pack 2

Thread Starter
I just updated my Gateway M505XL (Windows XP Pro) to Windows XP Service Pack 2. Took me less than 30 mins to download the Windows XP SP2 (266MB). The update seems to be working without any problem. I like the new features like the pop-up blocker and it does seem to provides better security. However, Microsoft hasn't release it to WindowsUpdate.com yet. But I download it from www.download.com (cnet). Here is the link: http://www.download.com/Windows-XP-S...-10308948.html

Once installed is completed and restarted whether you are using WindowsXP Home or Professional. It will no longer say "Home" or "Professional" during reboot.

I think Microsoft did that to seperate the skilled from the unskilled. Any skilled person can see it start up and say: "Thats pro because the bar is blue." Either that they overlooked something...Anyways, I have the same thing on both my notebook and my desktop, both of which has pro...

The final version has been there for a week now.

They didn't update it to Windows Update site because they are tweaking it so that you only download the portions of SP2 that are not already installed on your computer. Many of the security updates in SP2 we already have so no need downloading them again. It should make dl times much quicker than downloading the entire 266MB.
