Just ordered a Uniwill 12.1" from Cyberpower. - Page 3

I think all you need is a mono mini-plug to RCA cable or adapter. If you use a stereo mini-plug to RCA, then you just plug the white cable in to your receiver.

Here are some adapters/cables that should would work:

Interesting... the manuals say 2 memory slots for a 2 GB Max... the manual and the videos at www.ekm.com only show one slot.

Anyone open theirs up and take a look. mwave uses the slower memory and they will not put a 7200RPM drive in there.

mattew,
if you look close you'll notice there are in fact 2 slots for memory - 2nd slot is on top of the first slot

There are two slots. I ripped out the 128 I bought it with and put in 2x512 of DDR400 I had. It works beautifully. The ram is on the large underneath plate, which also houses the hard drive bracket and maybe the CPU. I'm not sure if you can get to the entire CPU with it open or not.

It came with 128 of PC2100, I put in the PC3200, and it's running as extremely low latency PC2700 (DDR333).

I've played UT2004 on it. I don't really like the intel drivers at all, there is no stretch to fit aspect ratio option, just a stretch or no stretch option. UT worked ok at 800x600 with fairly low settings.

It's not a gaming laptop, I think everyone realizes this already. You can prrobably play any game on it besides Doom 3 or Farcry however, maybe just not at a high resolution (I remember the Radeon 9700 in the Dell could play UT2004 in WUXGA (lol). This one can't handle WXGA let alone WUXGA.

i know 'heat issue' was brought up before, but, could you compare it to other laptops like Sony TR, Fujitsu P7000 (both really hot), or Sony S150 (lukewarm)
Thanks!

Never had one.

Not as hot as 9100 personal space heater.
Somewhat warmer than the Sony A170
As far as heat goes, I have had the thing going all day and it is warm but not nearly as hot as my Dell 8600.

Also I have a belkin bluetooth USB dongle which I had when I had a sony erricson t610. I pried open the plastic case and the board with the USB connectoralmost fits the bluetooth slot underneat (it is about a quarter inch too long) but it works! Windows recognized it right away and installed the bluetooth drivers (SP2). THe fact that it is too long means that it forces the plastic holder away from the case. But the cool thing is then you can see the flashing blue light. I tried the same thing with a USB memory stich i had but the board was too wide. I don't have any bluetooth peripherals to uyse this with though...

Thanks everyone.... good stuff. I am trying to decide if the screen is just too small. I travel with 6 laptops and train people on business automation software. Might be too small.... but I have to say that the 6 + projector I am carrying now is a pain on the plane and a pain if the client is up stairs...

Thanks again everyone.

I'm thinking about getting this for school. Does anyone know where I can buy a barebones one with just a CD or DVD drive? I only want it to take to class or when I travel, and I have my desktop for CD/DVD burning and gaming.
Also - what kind of battery life are you guys getting?

I've been looking very seriously at this laptop. I do have a question I can't find answered in its manual - located at:
http://www.uniwill.com/downloads/Uni...ual/manual.zip

Has anyone tried using an external monitor with this? If so:
What's the max supported bit depth/resolution?
Is multi-monitor supported, or just mirroring?

Thanks in advance.

FYI,

Slashdot just ran an article about how major notebook manufacturers, NEC and Toshiba are going to be shipping new models with similar Linux/Windows dual boot capabilities as the Uniwill. The Linux partition will also be used as a media player, so that Windows won't have to boot to watch DVDs, etc. I guess we've already known about this for some time.

Yes, I saw that. Very interesting. Made me wonder. . . I was planning on Dual Booting this thing (if I get one) w/ linux and XP. I wonder if I could assign that "Media Button" or whatever it's called to boot to the secondary OS. How great would that be? One button for XP, one for Linux. Anybody know? Is this button just associated to a particular partition on the MBR?
