Probably one of the biggest concerns for America (and the world) today is the fact that six corporations control virtually all of the means of creating and disseminating information;
AOL/Time Warner, ABC/Disney, Viacom/CBS, MSNBC(GE), FOX, and Clear Channel.
The list of media organizations that even the smallest of one of these companies controls is astounding and scary.
For example, ABC/Disney which is, arguably, one of the smaller and "nicer" media giants...
Just in *cable* Television, domestically (US): ABC Family, The Disney Channel, Toon Disney, SoapNet, ESPN, ESPN2, ESPN News, ESPN Now, ESPN Extreme Classic Sports Network, A&E Television, The History Channel, Lifetime Television, Lifetime Movie Network, E! Entertainment
They also control about 30-40 International stations, as well as the major broadcast network ABC.
They have 5 TV Production companies, 8 Movie studios (incl. Disney, Touchstone, Miramax, and Buena Vista).
They have over 1000 websites, 20 or so could be called "Major" like ABC.com, Disney.com, Nascar.com, NBA.com.
They own 5 Record companies, a theatrical company.
Two professional sports teams.
17 Amusement Parks.
13 Book publishers.
20+ Magazines here and abroad.
Now disney is small compared to others...
Viacom for example has about 50 TV stations (local affiliates they own), 15 or so TV networks (MTV, TMC, BET, VH1, Comedy Central, etc). They also own Infinity Broadcasting which has literally 100s of radio stations. Paramount Pictures, 20 or so book publishers.
Fox (probably the most cut-throat of them all) has 30 or so TV stations, about 50 Networks (Fox, Fox News, Fox sports, Sunshine, FX, STAR, etc, many international). All of the Fox movies studios. 30-40 Newspapers. Magazines, 50 or so book publishers, Several sports teams (LA Dogers, NY Rangers AND Knicks, LA Kings, LA Lakers).
Clear Channell... where to even begin... their ads even state "Clear Channel Communications - A company bent on world domination."
They control hundreds of Radio stations (literally hundreds, maybe even a thousand), Tv stations, magazines, and controls a large portion of the Billboards in America.
