ALX worth the investment? Discuss it here...

I dont get it, why is it that ppl are making such a big deal about the ALX. It is such an amazingly huge scheme. I checked on dell a computer with 95% same specs as an ALX, a bit better even in some areas, it became MUCH cheaper. more like $1900 cheaper. Check for your self. The advantages of ALX are that you can play online with AW members "YAY!!!!" (NOT) and they would install 3 games for you(AND...are you saying people are incapable of doing that them selves) any who they should give that sort privilege to all AW customers not only to the people who stuff more money down AW throat!(I mean arent they expensive enough already) Go with dell for the following reasons: 1.Wont take about a month and a half to deliver 2.Much cheaper 3. Better Customer Service...Unlees youve got money to waist, in that case just leave this thread and enjoy your ALX....and i know people think the ALX look like reallllly cool or whatever, the Dimension XPS is not that bad looking it actually pretty cool, check it for your selves, its just that dell doesnt try to make it like its anything special, with all the 5hity flash features...woosh woosh woosh. nothing like it, never ever seen before and all that 5hit. The only thing its got going for it its the cooling system(+an amazing cooling system cost no more than $250) http://www.pcwcomponentcentre.co.uk/invt/koowac10b (£135 = $250)..which is not worth $1900. This is one mans opinion, if you were bothered to read what i wrote give yours.....Maybe im plain WRONG + dont bother trash talking, give your opinion in a civilized manner.Thank you

Love,

You obviously know nothing about the ALX so I'll enlighten you. It is a liquid cooled CPU and GPU built into this chassis. This allows the machine to run near silent and be overclockable to huge degrees.

Please do your homework before you flame.

but i agree you can get a watercooling system for cheaper then the diffrence. and it aint that hard to put in.

http://www.pcwcomponentcentre.co.uk/invt/koowac10b i did...love.. and im not getting flamed up, to be honest i wanted to know why, and here is alink which i buy my comp. from.

Add the fact that you're purchasing at a different level and will receive a special level of support.

The ALX is the top end of the desktop line...if you don't GET it, then you never will.

Do you walk into all of the Mercedes dealers in your town and say "Hey, you're all n00bz0rZ, I can buy a Hyundai down the street for MUCH less...pffffftttt, talk to the hand!!" ??

Just move along.
Hope i dont get flamed for this because i didn't do my homework either...

but isn't the ALX going to have the Dual GPU setup?
Yes...it will be called the X2. It will have dual CPUs AND dual GPUS! And it will surely be of much debate in these forums by the nay sayers.

They will also be selling the single cpu/gpu model.

I think people have said this before-most people who buy an AW do it cause they like what it has to offer, the looks, the components, the "status" of owning an alienware.

It is similiar to cars-you can buy a ford focus-cheap insurance get you from point A to B-and that's that.

OR

You can buy a hummer-don't need a hummer, you live in the city, but you want to be part of the "hummer people" So you don't care if you pay alot extra-it looks better runs better-you may not need all the power but it's there if you do.

not sure if that is a good example--but you should be able to get the jest of it-

As for the "not taking two months to get computer with dell" There have been MANY delays with their XPS gen 3's--AND when people actually got those computers ALOT of them died on them. there are posts about this on this forum as well as on the dell forums.
Yes they are cheaper--BUT there are some downsides their power supply is proprietary which can be a hassle, so is their motherboard-the build quality alone seems better with AW which is another reason why people choose it.
When you go all out on a PC you want the best of the best-period AW offers that-so does NW falcon, monarch computer, voodoopc, etc-and they are priced just the same as AW

You don't purchase an ALX so they can install games for you, or to play with other AW folk-that is just an "added bonus" adds to the community thing of being part of owning an Alienware.

Dell's customer service being better than AW's is an opinion-and in mine I have found them horrible-I have posts in the dell forums explainig the entire story.

To sum it all up--
If someone is buying an ALX don't worry about it, they worked for their money ( or their parents money) let them use it however they choose.
I've seen kids in here saving up all summer mowing lawns just to buy an AW-they deserve whatever they want! Same goes for people who work all week at their jobs doing whatever-let them enjoy their computers-it's not your money they are spending is it?

People that buy AW's arent ignorant (am I going on a limb here? )
they shop around they know the price differences between AW and other retailers--but they choose AW

I can see you being angry if AW just lied to all these people and suckered them in, but that is not the case. Everyone here knows the prices and what we get for the money, which is why they order AW over Dell-

As for civility

I'm going to have to second Craig's points because he's got all I can think of at this point. The simple fact is that the ALX is top of the line right now, and as of yet nothing can come out to compare with it.

And Nat, I would not trust anyone but the finest experts to install a water cooling system in a computer... the odds of problems are huge and this way it's their problem if there -is- a mistake...

Well...if the Hyundai is more comfortable and faster and looks a bit worst but almost 40% cheaper, im not going to buy the Mercadese...and hey.."Alienware Moderator"..."MODERATOR"...seems like your getting pissed off just because im not saying AW rulessssssssszzzzz just because im trying to look at from different view, and not only... it will run doom 3 and i will be able to play hl2 ....im trying to see is it reallly worth $5400..playing with AW members and having 3 games installed on the system and cooling system which is worth $250 is not worth almost $2000, and i still think AW should give the gaming thing and the preinstalled games on the system to ALL AW customer, becuase i think its safe to say they paid enough money!!!...and i did say this is one mans opinion, so no one should get mad.

Hey, don't flame my ALX! There are to many reasons to go with a ALX over a Dell to even go into lol. Anyway, I'm sure I will get my moneys worth when I get the system, and see the benchmarks and the beauty of the overall desin inside and out. In a year or two I plan on upgrading it to the X2. Can Dell offer that?

Nicely said Rictor!

Read the title you put on this thread...its a blatant attack on those that laid down their hard earned cash for one of the best, if not THE best, systems out there...sorry if I hurt your fanny but YOU offended THEM first. I just shot back at your before they could.

See ya at the Hyundai dealer...
No offense, but do you have nothing else to do but to whine and complain about AW? That's what most of your posts are composed of. Simmer down, son or please leave the forums. We don't need any more bashing threads about people who put down money on ANY kind of AW system. Your broken english isn't fun to read either.

the only ppl i can thank right now in this forum are rictor and navd. ...thank you for your opinions...and stop saying top of the line ppl..cuz ive read on the site like 100 times, why do you think it is, and by the measurement that it is better by the second best is it worth the money...and as i said in the original message,"if you got money to waist leave the thread and enjoy the ALX"..rictor i do agree with you in some sense, but dont you think they should still give these "bonuses" to all AW customers...and i wouldnt care if it was just a normal computer with a high price, but they are trying to sell it for more than it is...way more...i just dont like that sort of advertisments....
however....I always did think it was a stupid feature that they will install 3 games for you but you have to send it in to them to do it....I'm going to be without my system for who knows how long so they can isntall a game for me? who thought up that one?
