The best I've seen from Dell with their DT's were 5 free things:

Shipping
$50.00 off
CDRW
$75.00 off or free digital camera
Printer

That's a lot of free stuff.

Dell always has good deals, they are high volume, gotta look good on the financial statements.

I got my 700m even thou it's not a DT with 15% off (255 dollars off), $275 combined mail in rebate and a cheap ass Dell printer.

A Dell with the same spec was over $2k. These companies are using the same parts as my notebook (Pentium processor, Kingston ram, Hitachi HD, etc.). ALX and Alienware are the worst. Charging you couple hundred $'s more to preinstalled 3 games for you. I back your opinion.
AW does more than install 3 games when you buy an ALX. We all know the ALX is expensive. We buy it because we WANT to. Why would anyone buy a PC from a company when it's cheaper to build it yourself?

Why would anyone buy a Mercedes Benz when they could get a Ford Pinto? They both have 4 wheels and an engine, but the Pinto is cheaper.

Yea but their service and support is averaged compared to Alienware, this is important when it comes to notebooks since they aren't as easy to service as a desktop.

Actually he found that in a thread in Dell general. I posted that pic so flame me..your still losing this absurd argument, but hey that's just my objective opinion.

If you want another one drop the issue all together, you've already made yourself look like enough of a fool. Nothing personal though.

The Voodoo's are expensive. I configured an Envy 370 for around $3200.00, $550.00 more than my AW, without the tattoo.

Area 51, Even since you do think the ALX is so overpriced, why must you come and blatantly post it in our AW forums. If i ever disagree with a Dell product, im not gonna go crap on the Dell parade about it. So what if you thinks its overpriced, we are all adults and can decide for ourselves if its price is reasonable. Go back to the Dell forums. If we ever do need an AW price analyzer though, you are first on our list.

i think the bottom line is any PC you buy from a commercial vendor is a "ripoff"

you can build it yourself cheaper then theyw ill sell it for,....

putting in a water cooled system isnt difficult at all, evenf or first time builders.

the onyl advantage i can see of buying an ALX is for the dual video cards, that isnt something you could build yourself and save alot fo money.

Doesn't the new nVidia 6800 have a SLI Connector that allows for this, or is that still in development??? I thought it was already out but I could be wrong. If I remember correctly, it takes up a $#!+load of room on the PCI slots though.

noy ou are right you CAN build this yourself...

but when you price it, your not saving much money at all.

hell your talking like a grand just for the 2 6800's and the connector!
The SLI is done via hardware. To restricting and slow.

AW is done by software. Alot smoother/faster/reliable/(easy to fix)/tweaks plus u can have 2 different cards

Yeah, I'm guessing I will only be using one GPU until Game requirements tell me otherwise. I thought the $400+ for the price of one is a little steep. Heck, I'm guessing I will be using only my current 5690 until gaming requirements tell me otherwise, which should still be 2 more years.

I do remember seeing the picture of this when they released the information, If I remember correctly it took up the room of 3 possible 4 PCI Slots for space (only using 2 slots in requirements), not even mentioning ventilation. Kinda leaves you empty handed on PCI slots when all is said and done
post #118 of 289
I started reading through this thread, but I gave up after page 2 as I have no desire to read an 8 page flame fest. At this point, I would have to say the ALX is not a good deal even if it is watercooled. Now when the X2 comes out, I will most likely change my opinion unless it is priced at over 7,000 dollars...

Oh, and on the topic of owned, allow me to offer up this

This thread should REALLY be deleted or locked. I'm kinda tired of seeing it always sitting on the top of this forum
