Hypersonic CX5 help needed...

Hello,
I just purchased a hypersonic CX5 and have some questions. First, let me say that I do not know much about computers at all, in fact this is my first time using windows (I have always had a mac). I purchased the computer for college to run demanding engineering programs. Specs are: Pentium M 755 2.0GHz processor, 1 GB RAM, Radon 9700 gfx card, 60GB 7,200RPM harddrive. I recently downloaded demos of splinter cell and hitman to test it out and am having some trouble. While playing the games, it is very choppy and seems too slow for the specs I have. I've noticed the slowness with other programs as well. For example, when in Windows media player and trying to change skins, as soon as i click on a different skin to veiw, it waits about 10-15 secs before even showing a new skin. Is this right, or do I have to change something in the computer? Thanks for any help you can give me!

Make sure your processor speed is set to Desktop in the power schemes management. Also make sure that there aren't too many "shadow" programs running (shouldn't be a problem though, if it is new). Sometimes if you have a wi-fi card on when running some programs it burps a little. Although this shouldn't affect gaming.

defrag and see if that helps..
usually I always find my hd at least 25% fragged from various setups
also before I installed the omega drivers (and used default / windows ati update ones) things were choppy

Try some different drivers/in game settings/driver settings.

Thanks for the help! In the power schemes window, I dont see anything that will allow me to set my processor speed to the desktop. I went to control panels>power options>power schemes. Am I looking in the right place? Also, how do I install different drivers and where would i get these different drivers?
Thanks,
John
