Yes, the battery does have two rubber feet on the bottom, similar to those on the laptop. It does elevate the back of the laptop a fraction of an inch. This does not bother me, but some may find it annoying.

how hot does it get under heavy use? is the heat unbearable on a lap?
when do the fans come on, and how loud can they get?
final question, what's the default clock on the GPU?

I think the added elevation would be ideal for typing and extended use.... Very nice, glad you like it! Congrats on being the first one here to claim one! And thank you for all the time you're putting in here instead of playing with your new toy

i dunno about the feet. what did he say, 6 more feet on the bottom? i would mainly use my laptop... uhh.. on my lap. =D i think the feet would be kind of annoying? just the way it looks from pictures, mebbe im wrong.

the 1.8'' in the back has me stumped also, i thought it was thinner. doh.

given that the cl56 is .34-.54'' thinner, and lighter, and cheaper, well damn, mebbe thats the way to go, just for me anyway. there's always the added benefit of the CTRL key in the right place, too. mebbe i could deal with the screen, i hate people on airplanes reading my screen anyway hehe
The feet didn't bother me at all while the laptop was on my lap. I didn't even notice them. 1.8" is the thickness including the longest feet.

Which control key are you referring to? You'll have to excuse me, I'm not familiar with laptop keyboard layouts. I've got a control key in the lower left-most corner, and the other is under the /? key.

That's what I do. I use any available solid object to prop up my notebook. I really makes typing much easier and more natural feeling.

They're pretty good at pulling air in on uneven surfaces. I had it on my lap, a car seat, and a bed all at full speed and the fan came on no more than normal. However, I still would try to keep the area underneath clear to get proper ventilation.

3 CD's Stacked on each side of my 8790 to keep the back end up, for both air flow and ease of typing!

Haha, Mediacom (AT&T) Cable?! I'll have mine go out for 3 days at a time..... And they still expect me to keep paying for it....

Have a wireless set up!? Curious how well and how far wireless signal will go with the 3790.

thanks for your response
Ocean's Eleven.

Don't worry, both laptops are excellent machines. The battery test... continues.

Waiting for the battery lfe report when the DVD + working test is over.
Thanks a buch again.
Not yet, but I think there shouldn't be any problem. The case has plenty of flex.

just received mine. i expected it to come double boxed, but it didn't. however, the way it was packaged, the laptop was "suspended" inside the box by foams holding it. the box looked to be in good shape, and the laptop turns on... so far, so good.

it came without the os, so right now, it's formatting... at 30% now...

must go change my signature while it's being formatted... shouldn't be doing this at work.... wait a minute... yes, i can... because it's my work computer and the company's paying for it (the best part!)

Did you get the Camera working? does it run smoothly?
What about the battery usage, if i get a 1.7 dothan will that give me more batterylife over a 2.0 dothan 3790?

What kind of mouse are you using USB? bluetooth?

It's been on a few uneven surfaces so far without any problems, but I would still be a bit cautious.

To be honest, I haven't kept much track of the fan. It's nearly impossible to hear it with my desktop on and some music playing. However, it does come on every 8-10 minutes or so on battery for about 30-40 seconds. It's still very quiet by my standards, which isn't saying a whole lot.
