Sager NP3790 Review - Page 18

I have now read all posts related to the 3790.
There are only 2 things that can stop me from getting it:

1) The Canadian dollar plummets and I can no longer afford a million dollar lappy - not bloody likely
2) The 3790 causes a thermonuclear explosion after 42hrs use, also not bloody likely.

Thus, I will be buying one once I can find a gullible person to purchase my Inspiron 4150

Sweet. Your finally ordering!

Yeah I'm not so convinced yet. Might go with the Uniwill Athlon64 & then pick up a WSXGA+ LCD panel from Ebay & swap it into the chassis.. heh

Revelations 5:42: And so it was written the a13antichrist would purchase a Uniwill, forever forsaking the Clevo chassis, turning it asunder. Thrice he shall deny the Clevo before the cock crows. And yea, though some will surely proclaim the a13antichrist a friend of all that is Clevo, those who truly know him will understand it shall be the behemoth 12 cell which shall turn him from the ODM chassis he once stood to admire.

Thus endeth the lesson.

Just a quick note before I go to bed:

Power draw (according to Mobile Meter) during my battery test was usually around 27W. When doing little to nothing (web browsing, etc.) it shows only 19W. So what I'm trying to say is, you should, under normal loads expect to get better battery life than what I experienced.
if the battery life to power consumption levels are linear,
then 27w/19w = 1.421; (1:51 = 1.85hrs) x 1.421 = 2.62885hrs = approx 2:38 for battery life while doing light tasks.

two and a half hours isn't bad, but not too good either for a centrino. although i doubt the relationship bet. batt life and power usage is a linear one. lets hope its better than 2.5hrs in reality - since battery life is the only thing holding me back from getting a 3790!
i'm back.

the computer has been performing flawlessly. now, that's different from saying "within two seconds of clicking, the task is done!".

anyway, i'm writing to let you know, i had the battery drain to nil in about 2:10 hours last night as i was doing some installation from external hard drive (powered by the notebook). i have a 6 cell because i'm normally plugged in, but i thought i would drain the battery and do this test to give you one more number (tested). i'm with Construct about being able to get more than 1:5x hours he got simply because my battery did last more than 2 hours.

i'll do more things and give you more update later. sorry, a day before my vacation so i need to meet with people before i leave to make sure the company runs in my absence. hope they don't do too well without me....

one more thing before i take the baby to work....

if your room is AC'ed properly, browsing the web and doing some "normal stuff" (Word, etc) will not make the laptop get too hot. the heat i was experiencing was perhaps due to the fact that i was formatting the hard drive in an office that had the AC out of order - honestly did not know at the time but later found out. the office was about 83 degrees, which is not too uncomfortable for me... 10 degrees difference in ambient temperature is significant, so that also contributed a bit to the heated wristpad. still, i maintain that if you type with your wrists down on the pad, you are going to notice the heat, just not as much as i did since the office i was sitting in was probably 10 deg hotter than wherever you'll be using yours....

It's not true when you live in a hot, hot place... (take it for 90-100F or 28-35C)

i live in florida, but mostly, the laptop is used in an controlled environment. i would not use the laptop with ambient at 90F for anything heavy, unless i had a cooler underneath it. at least 3790 doesn't seem to be built for that.

I'm watching Microsoft's 1080p WMVHD clips through ZoomPlayer. No dropped frames so far. These look absolutely amazing on the WUXGA screen. So amazing that I may be buying one or two of these WMVHD DVDs pretty soon.

If you'd like to try some of these clips out, they can be found here:

I have the Indigo, but I sold my headphones to get some new ones. My new headphones are on the way from Japan.

After hearing the 3790's headphone out port through speakers, I'm very glad I bought the Indigo DJ. At this point I'm not sure if the drivers are misconfigured somehow or if the onboard sound is just seriously lacking. Maybe someone else can check the headphone out port on their 3790 so we can compare thoughts?
sound from the headphone port is not too shabby.

however, i'm looking into the echo indigo card.

hey construct...is the DVD-R and the CD-R the same speed? or can the drive write at a faster speed?
