Lockup problems, Gateway M675X

If anyone could point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated, I have had nothing but trouble with Gateway Tech Support since I took delivery of my laptop 4 months ago, this includes a brief stint where I sent the computer in for repairs and it was temporarily "lost". Needless to say I don’t have much faith in the company anymore and I am in seek of help.

The problem I am having is the computer just seems to freeze when I am playing games on it. I thought at first it might be memory related so I upgraded to 1gig of ram, but the issue is still there.

It seems that any game I play on it runs fine up until time of lockup, there is no apparent warring of trouble also there are no error messages when the computer freezes, it just becomes unresponsive and I have to reboot.

I have updated all my drivers from the Gateway site and from Windows update, as I said before I am willing to try any idea you guys might have.

Here is some information about the computer,

Gateway M675
P4 2.8 Ghz HT
1023 megs PC2700 DDR Ram
ATI Mobility Radeon 9600 128
Sigma Tel C-Major Audio
DVD/CD-ROM Slimtype COMBO LSC-24082K
3.5 Floppy
Windows XP home

Thanks.

Hmm... DirectX maybe? All I can think of is either DirectX or your video card drivers. Make sure you have the latest DirectX version. Looking at the Gateway website, I can't tell which version of the Catalyst drivers that is. Also you could try the Omega drivers

Thanks, I installed those drivers have to play for a bit to see if it helps. But it seems like i have created another problem, it looks like my computer isnt changing resolutions. The screen stays at my desktop size with the game playing in a smaller screen.

EDIT: Screen size issue resolved
