Dell Insprion 8500 Video Card Upgrade

Hey everybody, have a simple question. I have a Dell Inspiron 8500 series model with the nvidia 64mb video card. I would like to upgrade to the best video card available for my labtop. Any suggestions? Doesn't matter who makes it I just want the fastest video card money can but for my labtop. Thanks....

I believe the fastet card you can get is the Nvidia 5650 128MB, my friend has it in his laptop and he had the Nvidia GF4 4200GO. His member name in the forums is "the nitz". search for him in the members list and send him an e-mail, he will be more than happy to help you out.

I have both the 5650 and the 9600 and I would say the 9600 is better.

Ah I didn't know that you could put the 9600 Pro Turbo in an 8500, cool. My friend(the nitz) wouldn't like it, he is an ATI hater.

If you get the 9600, for your 8500, you'll have to do this mod on the card, or it will get so hot your system will restart.

If you get the 5650, the heat mod is also needed because the internal tempurature will reach 100 degrees celcius and your comp will shut down.

I have a good question, where is the best place to buy a 9600 for the 8500/8600? how muchw ill it cost?

I can't find it on DELL's website

isn't it in spare parts? you might have to call dell to get it, but keep diving deep into the site, it must be there somewhere!!!!

Mod for Cooling

Is there ANY other way to cool the video card other than using the mod? It seem to me that there has to be a simpler way to cool the video card instead of using a makeshift heatsink?

re

I've really looked hard on their site and it is NO WHERE to be found, you really are going to have to call to get a price.. it's roughly 240, but i dont' think we are allowed to talk prices on this forum... just like with many forums.. Just call Dell Spare Parts.

PS - I think the cards are going to be refurbished but none the less, still work just fine.

And i think if there was an easier heat mod that was just as effective as the "makeshift" one, it would be used a lot more.. If you think the copper is a "makeshift" heat mod, just stick to your stock pads which are crap, and keep your 20 - 30 Degree hotter GPU, not to mention what the temp will be with you upgrade to a new gpu :/

Battery / 2nd Monitor issues?

Hey all, I just got Doom 3 and am considering this 9600 upgrade as well. However, I'm concerned that since my Inspiron 8500 laptop wasn't originally designed to work with this card, that I'll lose my video-out functionality. Some of you have done this, does the video-out still work? Also, did it affect battery performance at all? Thanks for your help.

Ps

I currently have the nVidia 4200 Go w/ 64 mb of ram, if that makes any difference in upgrading to the ATI...
