Sager drivers and DirectX 9

Please excuse the newbie-ness.

I've been contemplating getting one of the new 4060s but the current issues with DirectX 9 and the ATI 9000 have me a bit confused. I have seen multiple post talking about having trouble with the Cat 3.2 and Cat 3.4 drivers and DX9. Are the Catalyst drivers the same as the drivers on the Sager web site? If not then is anyone able to run DX9 with the Sager drivers and not have problems?

The reason that I ask is because I want to get this notebook for gaming and some of the games (like Star Wars Galaxies) require a 100% DX9 compatible system.

Lucky you

I just installed the sager drivers (from the website) a few minutes back and YES they are the Cat 3.2's Sager had them pulled off a while ago but it looks like they are back now. And they are working very well for me. They are not the same as the ones on the ATI website - these have been modded to install onto our beloved sagers without a hitch. The drivers from the ATI website require a more elaborate installation process...that borders on insanity

The Cat 3.2's worked well - the Cat 3.4's had issues with 5670 owners and 8887 owners (? not sure about 8887 dudes).

Yes you can install and run DX9.0a in your system - the games will work but the card will not support the DX9.0 features. You wont have any problem playing the game...

I suggest you get a 2.8Ghz CPU without the HT and stuff...there have been issues with HT and DX9.0a and some of us think they dont mix very well...but this is still up in the air

the 4060 is a very nice system with a nice mix of features. I havent tried one out personally but I think it should be good. The 5670 is also very nice with the best screen of the lot. If you have a few extra $$$ plump for the 5670...if not - stick with the 4060...

And if gaming is ALL that you are into - then get the 2.8Ghz CPU or a lower speed one - you can upgrade to 2.8 when the prices drop and drop this CPU directly into a friends desktop for a good price
