MR9800 will be free for all on August 28 - Page 2

I'm crossing my fingers for a 56xx upgrade...

As it is I bought my 5680 four days before they upgraded to the 5690...

My computer was obsolete before it even got to my house.

In my opinion... as far as Sager notebook thickness profiles go... the 56xx series would be the most likely candidate for the upgrade. Plus it seems to have the best cooling available on a Sager.

With PCI-E coming out there is really no reason for ODM's to develop a case and mother board to accomodate the 9800. They are better off concentrating on designs for PCI-E.

The 9800 will be the last of it's kind. The T-Rex of the AGP world. But's it's reign will be short lived and like the rest of the dinosaurs will soon be extinct.
I believe the same

"It's also the world's first chip with 256 bit memory interface and possibly configurations with up to 256MB memory for notebooks, claims ATI."

Well, the memory part is wrong (but then again, it is theinquirer.. who uses that crap for news?), but the mobility 9800 is the first with the 256-bit memory interface.

I'm with ya'll.

As soon as a lappy with the 256mb-mr9800, a 17 inch SXGA+ glossy, 60 gig 7200 RPM drive, Northwood 3.0 and above or AMD64 3200 and above is available I'm gonna throw my wallet open and git her done.

I hope its a Sager and I hope its an 8790 but I'm torqued (no pun intended) for a new lappy and can't wait much longer so ........ first come first served!
I just saw on another thread that Sager is going straight to PCI-E. I sure hope they beat other 17in SXGA+ 9800 configs to the punch. I was hoping to buy a Sager. I hate to think I might have to buy Dell..........

if PCTorque announces a 3790 or "3750" with the 6-channel ALC chip they'll be getting my money the instant the configurator comes online. Heck I don't even need the 5.1 speakers of the 4750, i just need an internal 6-channel DS3D capable chipset and the 3 3.5mm outputs. This is the ONLY gripe I have with the 3790, that I have to go out and get an NX to use 5.1 headphones.

if sager did decide to do this upgrade to mr9800, even tho they said they wont...i dont see why the 5690 would not be upgradable...it's even thicker than the 8790 and 4750.....those xps systems are even thicker than the 5690....talk about a doorstop

You guys are right about sager going towards PCI-E instead of AGP. I emailed Sager's sale manager and he confirmed it. He also gave me a bad news that there won't be any upgrade for the NP8790.

wouldnt really suprise me if their arnt any upgrades available i think its kinda a big jump in design.

Bummer, but not totally unexpected.

/me puts on asbestos suit: www.go-l.com has the specs up for a new system that looks like it could be the D900T aka Phantom. Almost the same form factor as the 8790 with nVidia's MXM module. nv41m most likely. Just needs some A64 lovin'. It even claims 512mb graphics. It would be awesome if laptops beat desktops to that. They sure need it more.
Well www.go-l.com does have like 2 AMD 64 models upto the 3700+, just of course not the video card people want, and I don't know if the screen is glossy or not  I am sure someone else can figure/find that out.

That new Phantom/Hollywood revamped 8790 is sleek and sexy on Go-I's site..but I bet that sucker will be a small fortune heh..well if you buy it from them it will be lol..

Like me? J/K I don't really care what it comes out to, if it's a reputable company (not saying that about L) and it is what I want, I will make myself afford it.
