MWave N258KA TidBits

There have been people wondering about this particular notebook from MWave, so I'll add on to OFFMason's post regarding the same one (just do a search for his).

My notebook came very well packaged, along with a generic carrying case. The exterior and screen is perfect. No scratches whatsoever. The following may be an slightly uneducated opinion, because the only notebooks I've used before mine, were Dells at work. So here goes:

Weight - This is a pretty hefty notebook (as far as notebooks go), so if you're looking for lightweight...it's definately not an option. The power brick was about half the weight of the notebook itself, however that thing is huge. Shipping weight was 16lbs.

Build - It doesn't feel cheap at all. No flex in the keyboard. The LCD screen stays where you leave it. Right now, it's at a 45 degree angle while I'm typing up the little review. Hasn't budged yet.

Display - This is probably the only fault of the notebook. I have 1 dead pixel (red), but it really isn't that bad. In fact, I don't even notice it sometimes unless I really look for it. The pictures are crisp though and almost as bright as my CRT monitor.

Heat - I don't see why people claim this as an issue. OFFMason compared the heat to that of a warm cup of tea. I'd say it's more like a barely warm cup of tea. With my notebook cooler, it's like a barely warm cup of tea, that's been sitting out for 5 mins. Bottom line - heat is definately not an issue for me. No sweaty palms or anything. Maybe my opinion will change after I play a DVD.

Noise - The notebook is almost completely silent. If I put my ear close to the keyboard, then I can hear a slight whirring sound. My notebook cooler is barely audible as well.

Performance - I can't really compare anything yet. Haven't benched marked at all.

Battery Life - Surprisingly adequate. The battery lasted me roughly 3 hours, while installing all the utilities, downloading Windows Updates, installing WinXP SP1, and about 10+ reboots. I'll post up numbers for DVD play tomorrow.

I'll try to put up pictures tomorrow, if I have time. If not, definately by the weekend. All in all, I am more than happy with my notebook from MWave. Any questions/concerns, post or send me a PM.

Nice...what are the specs and how much did you pay? Also, what cooler do you use and how well does it fit for this lappy. I have the Ibuypower S-Turbo (same lappy) comming in around the 1st days of September and I am looking for a cooler that will fit and actualy work (hopefuly USB powered). Is the brick such a hassle? Do you perhaps know if there are any good 3rd party bricks that will fit and work well which are smaller and lighter? (not that mobility is huge factor to me..i know that this lappy is big). By the way, just for some specs...it is 14" x 10.5" by 1.5" when closed. I am still in the market for a bag also, IBP is not giving me a generic bag, at least not that i know off. From what I've heard benches should be in 11000s for Mark01 and 3000s for Mark 03...not great...but respectable (but since you have the mwave version you only get PC2100 ram and a 3000+ and isnt your HD 5400? vs mine which has a 7k60, pc2700 and 3200+). Ahh... I cant wait till i finaly get it. Good luck on your review and getting some pics. When I will get mine I'll also try for a review with pics and benchies...but I can't really be able to compare it to anything but IBM T20 (?) of one of my friends and a PowerBook (maybe its an iBook) of my other friend.

Specs:
A64 3000+
512MB PC3200
ATi Mobility 9700
5400RPM 40GB HDD

I'm using the Vantec LapCool. It doesn't fit but it seems to work anyways. The brick should only be a hassle if you're concerned about portability, it's size and weight make it too cumbersome to be practical. Although, if you're worried about size and weight, you wouldn't have got this notebook.

As for pictures, I'm probably not going to put them up. My laziness has overwhelmed me. Same goes for benches.

Can you install & play Doom3 for about 2 hrs? People have reported permanent video errors by doing this..
Not that I want you to break your brand new laptop, of course..
