Hey everyone, I'm off to college next year (woohoo) and im just curious about what games are especially popular in colleges these days. Especially games played over the network. Can't wait to get my Sager 5670 ! Just need the cash. Also, if you have anything to say about college LAN game experiences or college in general, that could make for a good conversation. C ya!

Don't know about other colleges, but at the one I go to ( Le Moyne College in Syracuse), Counterstrike seems to be pretty popular. So is Tatical Ops, but my personal favorite is UT (both Game of the year and 2003), which has some level of popularity. I have also heard others playing Starcraft, Battlefield 1942 and Quake III, I think.

All these games should run fine on your new lappy. Don't know the exact specs, but if it has 64mb ( or heck, even 32mb) and a chipset of 7500 or higher, it should run smooth.

LAN parties are awesome. I host a LAN party about once a month, and it is so much more fun than just playing over the internet. Its really a great feeling to talk trash to a friend after you frag him! (and see his face in the process)

Some of my favorite games to LAN on would be:

Soldier of Fortune 2
Counter-Strike
Warcraft 3

I am not in college yet the games I will play with my friends are things like Starcraft and now Warcraft 3. I would like to play them in some games like rogue spear, bf 1942, or any other action game yet they are not into those games. I think the action ones are the more popular ones at college though judging by my brother's friends. They play all sorts of action games and the ones they play are always changing.

If you're going to a nerd school (like RPI), "install obscure linux distro" seems to be pretty popular. Other than that, Counter-Strike.
