I was leasd to beleive that glossy and 'brite' screens are two different things...glossy being a screen covering and 'brite' being a resolution display imporvent (lcd hardware) technology....
That could very well be.

i believe you are correct, but neither of them are a very big deal IMO, even if they do make stuff look clearer. Of course, the glossy screens have the added function of a mirror when theyre off.

In that case you will be better off with a glossy screen for you are gonna save 20 bucks or so on a mirror.

Well,

Considering that the screen is what you look at 99% of the time, I've always made the screen a major deciding factor in picking a unit. This was the main reason I bought my Toshiba 5105-Sxxx. I chose the model that had SXVGA+ eventhough the processor was only 1.7 P4-m. I'm a used-to-be 3D model designer and AutoCAD user so video quality has always been a sticking piont for me....

I'm wary of the screens because they're so reflective, and because of the nightmare I've heard about called IPS. And since most of the name-brand guys wouldn't know a gaming notebook if it bit them on the rear, I'm afraid they'd give me a crystal clear screen for staring at my background, but would ghost like crazy in games or DVDs.

I think that $2800 should about cover a call girl for a week.

From what I've heard/read, it's incredibly slow when used in notebook LCDs and requires more power than other notebook LCDs, so theres blurring/ghosting in DVDs and games, and sometimes even in normal apps.

That said, I don't know if all/any of the big names use IPS to get those "bright" screens, but the whole thing just leaves a sour taste in my mouth for them.
