Haha, maybe we can now fantasize about what this new PCI-E notebook will sport instead of whether we should get it.

With PCIe, is the memory on-board the machine (in our case the notebook) or is it on the GPU? I'm just thinking.. Doom 3 in ULTRA settings requires ~512MB video ram (to play well).. Doom 3 and HL2 kind of set the bar a little higher (along with Far Cry) as to what system requirements will be in the future..

I know NOW we hardly have anything that uses 256, but, it's coming (bigger textures, etc), and it's coming probably sooner than we think.. I'd like to be able to upgrade my GPU, but would be nice if memory was also scalable (let's say they had the 4750 with 128 video ram and PCIe.. I'd rather wait for at least 256 video ram -- that is if it's on the motherboard and not the module)...

From the pictures for PCIe video cards for notebooks, it just looks like the main GPU chip it-self is what gets inserted into the notebook PCIe slot.. so.. hope they put at least 256 MB memory on-board...

I wanna see what specs the upcoming MRX800 will have (if it will be 8 pipes like the MR9800, or if they'll open up more). I'm also curious about the NV4X mobile stuff. NVIDIA has been very quiet about mobile GPUs, so that makes me curious what they have up their sleeve. I hope they do have something up their sleeve and they're not just counting on OpenGL to take over the world to make them look fast.

The graphics cards for notebooks will be like a desktop, I believe. So the memory and the GPU will be on the same card. That way, there's not alot of travel distance between the GPU and memory.

*PHEW* (wipes nervous sweat off his forehead)

Thanks.. makes sense, and I hope you're right

Are there any 512 MB video cards? Unless you mean the dual card stacks that Alienware is using.

I'd like to see them put HDTV capture, but that's just me. Hopefully the rumors about broadcasters no longer using NTSC and making our current TV's obsolete are false.

512 MB VRAM in the future, one word: whoa. my current lappy has about 16MB shared (integrated memory). And my cousin just gave it to me a year ago. See why I'm waiting for upgradable GPUs? The suffering of the obsolete...

Their is no doubt that the memory is on-board just look at those pics

Yes but you have to hack into your TiVO and certain models only have certain features without being flash-ROMed. It's a complicated subject. I started here:

While this is the case as things stand today, things seem to be changing. In the battle for the living room, companies like Microsoft and Tivo want to allow you to do what you want with your content. The FCC seems to get it. Powell, the head of the FCC, loves his Tivo and raves about it. As I mentioned previously, the FCC recently approved some additional rules regarding the broadcast flags and how people could use content that has broadcast flags. I don't have a lot of details, but it seemed clear that taking content from Tivo (and Tivo like devices) and using them on a PC would be a feature in future products. Also, being able to share these with friends/family is likely to be an option.

I hope they don't squeeze out those of us who want to record HDTV off the air using just a VCR or our lappys. Anyways, do you think this new model will have that 120GB 7200 model that the Acer model 1710 has? It'd be nice to store all the HDTV recordings

And here.. http://www.eurocom.com/products/futu...m?model_id=123

Can you quote the section you're talking about? All I see is a standard TV tuner on both sites. HDTV output doesn't mean tuner.

In the black box on Go-l site where it says year 2104 lethargic year 2004 breakneck second to last line in the paragraph it says... HDTV Turner DVI-out + S-Video I/O + HDTV Out

Thanks, I see it now. They don't mention it in the main text though (or on the Eurocomm site). And of course, this is Liebermann...

It will be nice if it's true, but I'll believe it when someone has one in their hands. I'm sure internal HDTV tuners will be available sometime, but the sooner, the better.
